According to Katie Strang and David Lennon of Newsday, John Maine will see Dr. James Andrews in the next days and possibly will miss the season. A source was quoted as saying “I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t pitch again this season”.
And the injury woes continue

“Maine declined to comment on seeking a second opinion, responding, “I don’t have anything to say about that.”
He says he has ‘discomfort’, not pain and normally not when pitching, just in between days.
Said he thought he might have pushed himself too soon after surgery last year. Remember we were all told he was having a bone spur removed? shaved down? and he’d be good to go by ST?
So hard to tell, by all these stories, whether there is something seriously wrong or just normal aches/pains of a body trying to get back after surgery and getting into a pitching routine….

At this point Met fans need a medical degree to keep up.

shut him down if need be for the season. But it is good that he is going for the 2nd opinion.
His complaints have seemed a bit odd anyway, and IIRC, he was pitching pretty well (or at least had good stuff) when he went on the DL.
You have to figure that after having your shoulder cut into (or holes poiked into it!) and bone shaving done, you might just be sore for a while, possibly forever.
So, maybe this is just how he is going to feel from now on, and he has to suck it up and play through it? Maybe it really is mental, and he needs Dr. Andrews to tell him that?
Maine always had the repoutation of being a bit of a head case anyway.

I agree, just shut him down. I like Johnny Maine and think he can be a real asset to this team when healthy. Him and Pelf have the potential to be great #2/#3′s in a rotation and hopefully he can get back to his ’07 form. He was pitching well before the injuries started again, I just dont want to sell low on this kid, not yet at least.

Well this report is especially odd in that, right before I went to bed last night I read the following on Mack’s Mets:
“5. Message exchange with John Maine today:
Me: John, it’s Mack from Mack’s Mets… just checking how the rehab is going and your timetable… btw… take your time… no rush to come back to this mess…
Maine: I will be back the second week of August hopefully. I feel great and Jose Reyes might be a week before me.”

The Mets must be running on the CIA model. They teach their employees to lie about everything, at all times, even if there is no reason to!
