Gulf Coast League

• The GCL Marlins gutted the GCL Mets 2-0 Friday.  3 members of the Mets class of ’09 played.  C Camden Maron got in the lineup as DH and went 0 for 3.  3B Josh Dunn was 0 for 3 at the plate and made a throwing error, his 1st of the season, in the field.  C Nelfi Zapata had a 2nd inning single to go 1 for 4.  For more see the box score and recap.

Appalachian League

• The Elizabethton Twins edged the Kingsport Mets 7-6 Friday.  5 players drafted in 2009 participated for the K-Mets.  John Freeman came on defensively at catcher in the 9th inning but did not get a plate appearance.  John Semel pinch hit with 2 outs in the 9th and struck out to end the game.  DH Kurt Steinhauer struck out 3 times to go 0 for 3 and lower his season batting average to .435.  LF Ronald Harris walked and scored in the 3rd inning and wound up 0 for 3.  CF Darrell Ceciliani singled and scored in the 3rd inning en route to a 1 for 5 game.  For more see the box score and recap.

New York-Penn League

• The Brooklyn Cyclones doubled up the Staten Island Yankees 4-2 Friday.  2 players drafted this June took part for the Cyclones.  SS Robbie Shields walked in the 4th and the 7th but finished the game 0 for 3.  1B Sam Honeck was hit by a pitch in the 4th and came around to score.  He singled and scored in the 5th and wound up 1 for 4 in the game.  See the box score and recap for more.  The Staten Island Advance has the SI perspective on the game.  They also have the make-up date for Thursday’s rain out.

South Atlantic League

• The West Virginia Power bug zapped the Savannah Sand Gnats 4-1 Friday.  2009 draftee LF Joseph August went 0 for 2 with a walk.  For more see the game story, box score and recap.  OurSports Central also has a game story.

Armstrong, front; Contador, right in yellow

TRDMB sends out congratulations to Spain’s Alberto Contador for winning the 2009 Tour de France.  America’s Lance Armstrong finished third.  Yes there is one more day of racing but it’s purely ceremonial.
