Record: 0-0 Era: 5.91 K: 10 BB: 2 WHIP: 1.50

Mets Notes:

Fernando Nieve was to start the Mets’ game against the Astros on Saturday, but he strained his right quadriceps running the bases Sunday in Atlanta and has been placed on the disabled list. The Mets have not yet announced who will take his spot, and manager Jerry Manuel said the decision may wait until Saturday afternoon. But the smart money is on Jon Niese, who has won his last five decisions for Triple-A Buffalo, and who holds a 0.72 ERA in his seven most recent starts. Niese has not faced the Astros in any of his five career starts.

Astros Notes:
Ortiz, who criticized manager Cecil Cooper for taking him out of the game after only three innings in his final start before the All-Star break on July 9, was allowed to navigate his way through six innings on a hot Sunday in Los Angeles, allowing five hits and two runs against the Dodgers. Ortiz is 9-7 with a 5.20 ERA in 18 career games against the Mets, including 17 starts.

just putting it out there – i havent seen any mets trade rumors – omar jeffy and fred will have their asses ripped if they dont make at least a mid level deal with someone

Agreed, either that or Frenchy came too early. Looks like the way Huff is hitting you could get him easily.

at this point I don’t see a need for Huff. might as well test murphy for the rest of the season.

huff might only be useful and worth trading for if the mets were playing for something. if huff was available a month ago, that would have been the time to do it.

agreed…im searching everywhere and nada……..dont know what we are buying?

Me either, I guess with ESPN telling HIM the Mets are out of it he just agreed.

Still don’t see why we would not look into Rios.

There’s 12 million reasons a year or thereabout. But if Toronto is desperate enough to throw in some cash (maybe pay for 3-4m a year of his deal?) and take a couple of B prospects then I guess it is worthwhile.

Looks like Niese has really gotten a hold of that control problem he was having in Spring Training.

I have to admit that so far Francoeur has been proving me wrong. He’s been a better run producer than Ryan Church had been.

    Hopefully it keeps up.

I 2nd that! Maybe just maybe
      we have a RFer for2010?
      Could we get that lucky?

I know Wanny will kill me for this one and tear it to pieces but here is what I came up with

Jays get: Niese, Parnell, Fmart, Tejda
    Rays get: Halladay, Frenchy
Mets get: Crawford, Rios and Kazmir

oh no here we go again lol btw did anyone hear adam rubin on adam the bull today? he was pretty much ripping the mets front office

    2. wannybackstra

trs:: from your mouth to God’s ears and the Wilpons’ checkbook!

By the way, it seems as if Kazmir is not healthy.

      1. trs86

Yeah, that’s the only way the trade works Wanny. If he was healthy and pitching well it does not work.

I recall trading for an injured pitcher from the Rays once before…

          1. trs86

Yeah, but we at least did not know he was injured. LOL. Not to mention that we at least would be getting Rios and Crawford to soften the blow.

      2. trs86

Well lets see that would cost them what? 10 million this season and 30 next?
