    Bernazard fired.

  2. mrbill

Willie must be enjoying this even just a little bit while Delgado is probably upset his buddy is gone.

  3. metsfan4decades

It was a no brainer. There was no choice.

  4. prismo

    BYE BERNAZARD

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out

    Next up: Jerry Manuel

And last but not least: Omar Minaya

  5. dirtysanchez

I wonder if this is true. Maybe a good sign that the mets are not going to put up with BS anymore.

    1. metsfan4decades

Maybe it’s just a side effect of today’s technology….but doesn’t anyone wonder how this word got out BEFORE the press conference?

Why does the Mets business always seem to be aired in public via rumors before it’s fact? Where’s the leak?

      1. mrbill

I know! i always wonder how everything gets leaked to the media.

      2. stickguy

every organizattion, especially sports teams, is like that.

Reporters have their moles, and I figure most of th etime the teams leak it intentionally. Reporters must hate not knowing what they are showing up for.

If nothing else, they leak the juicy part 9but of course not the details) to make sure the press coverage shows up. No leak, and it is probably to annouce they switched from Coke to pepsi for the post game spread.

  6. stickguy

Given al lthe reports of TOny B. and Jeffy being BFFs, I assume that the firing had to be vetted by the top brass (IOW, Omar didn’t get to make this unilaterally). So, their must have been some good discussion about the future of theteam, FO functions, etc.

As embarrassing as the whole Tony B. mess was, it might have a silver lining if it served as a wake up call for the organization.

    1. dentulous

I hope so too. This organization needs a direction and one leader

  7. QnsNative718

Good. The guy was bad news for this organization.

  8. metsfan4decades

Anyone who does not get SNY, Amazin Ave is ‘live blogging’ it for their fans right now.

  9. fongy2

So now if Tony B. is fired, who do
    the minor leaguers/hispanic players
call when they have a problem?$?

    1. stickguy

they will outsource to india like every other company.

  10. metsfan4decades

    Oh, Omar….
It’s almost painful sometimes to watch him address the media with this type of news. Reminds me of the press conference on the firing of Willie last year.

    1. dentulous

It is brutal!Pls stop asking him questions. English seems like his 5th language. Just brutal

  11. dentulous

HAHA! did you see Adam Rubin when Omar was talking about him lobbying for Tony’s position.

    1. metsfan4decades

Yeah, SNY is keeping that focus on Rubin.

So is it just me, or does it appear Omar is royally pissed at Rubin for breaking this story? He admitted HRO had already had complaints, there were ‘HR investigations’ going on, so like he’s pissed b/c the story broke they had to ‘expedite’ the investigation?

Like they had no intentions of firing Bernazard and since these stories broke, they had no choice????

Whoa – no Rubin getting into it with Omar.
They need to get Omar out of there. Now.

      1. metsfan4decades

He’s basically accusing Rubin of tearing Bernazard down so he could get his job?

This is beyond a circus now.

    2. dentulous

      ooh, Adam called him despicable!

      Cat Fight!!

      1. charlie_s

I just heard that (listening online with a delay)…

        Oh man!

  12. charlie_s

What the heck is this item about Rubin???

This is a bizarre twist to this story. Adam Rubin wanted a job in player development? Really? How weird is that?

And, he has access to HR investigations before Omar?

    Fire Omar right now.

  13. dentulous

haha. Omar over here. this must be taped.

why bring Adam Rubin up if you are not alleging that he was trying to bring tony down?

    1. saltygary

This is crazy, I’ve never heard such a thing.

      1. dentulous

this is better than watching the team!

        1. saltygary

No kidding. I can’t wait to read Adam Rubin’s piece tomorrow.

          1. dentulous

            Daily News Live anyone?

  14. charlie_s

Omar is digging himself such a hole. What a clown.

    1. dentulous

Someone needs to swoop down and save him from himself!

      1. charlie_s

        No! Let him drown himself!

        1. dentulous

          Oh yeah. Good point.

  15. metsfan4decades

This conference was way too long. Why did they let question after question like this be asked, especially knowing Omar doesn’t do well in these type of press conferences? This just made things worse, not better.

It was painful to watch. Carlin’s comment “in a word, Wow”.

Bobby O can’t help laughing ‘last time I was this uncomfortable was when Straw and Keith got in a fight on picture day’.

Heyman can’t believe the ‘accusation’ against Rubin.

    O.K. guys…..queue the circus music.

  16. charlie_s

Omar: I believe we have a very good minor league system…I believe in our minor leagues.

That’s all I need to hear. FIRE MINAYA. I’m done with this clown.

  17. dentulous

Whoever did not watch, you missed out on the greatest spectacle of this season.

the best part, “Omar over here” while Omar was probably staring at Rubin and another reporter was asking him questions.

  18. metsfan4decades

And you know, did anyone notice Rubin never denied the accusation?

    1. charlie_s

Actually, I think he did when he called Omar despicable for insinuating Rubin tried to take Tony B. down.

      1. metsfan4decades

Yes, I heard that too. He was outraged, and probably rightly so, that he would be accused of writing negatively about Bernazard to somehow get his job. Now Omar did deny that.

I think the ball being lobbied back and forth was Omar clearly didn’t want to fire Bernazard, if Rubin didn’t break that story, they probably would have swept it under the rug, and he insisted though that Rubin has lobbied him for that job and probably had ulterior motives.

        Carlin was right. Just ‘Wow’.

    2. metsgirl31

      Good point….

  19. metsgirl31

I can’t believe he made it worse…I thought firing this guy would finally put controversy to bed and just the opposite.

    1. charlie_s

      He needs to go…

    2. dentulous

Omar is a MORON, for anyone in doubt. Just opened a can of worms!

  20. Joe R

    Let’s play ball!!!

    1. mrbill

      LOL… OH OK

  21. prismo

    I don’t get SNY. :(

    1. mrbill

      what did they do?

    2. metsfan4decades

You missed the show. I don’t know how else to label it.

They should NEVER have left Omar out there with these questions escalating. Read a statement, take a few questions, end it.

      1. mrbill

I have it on tivo… Can’t wait to watch it later tonight. It sounds unprecedented.

        1. metsfan4decades

Oh, it was Mrbill. I think this one actually beats the firing Wilie debacle last year…

  22. saltygary

Wow wow wow. I can’t see how Omar is going to make it though next season. The media is going to skewer him not stop until he is gone. All the newspapers are going to get together in a united front and show that accusations like this will not fly.

I have never been against Omar but after that I don’t know how this situation recovers unless he’s gone.

    Wow unbelievable.

    1. dentulous

Seriously, cant treat the media like that here. I mean, this whole story was gonna be swept under the rug, and now Omar unleashed this new beast.

Oh the Mets, Why cant you learn….

  23. There's Always '09

This clearly shows why the Mets should stick to firing people during business hours in Hong Kong.

    1. dentulous

good point. We are not good at doing things the normal way.

  24. mrbill

I wonder what Fongy is going to say re press conf… lol

  25. Joe R

Just walked in my door from a 4 day vaca to ocean city Maryland. I had to go to the bathroom so bad but threw on tv which was already on sny cause I taped the previous 3 games and who’s face do I see?? Omar looking shooken!! Adam rubin shaking like a leaf LOL. These guys are so tough and ready to kill careers and then when it’s pointed at them they cry. If true good for Omar expose these reporters that feel free to be a holes! Not good cause it opened more back page stories but hey we all have tough skin by now! Get em Omar!!

  26. charlie_s

This is proof positive that the Mets are completely dysfunctional.

  27. Joe R

Good to see we won a series though. Did we land pujols via trade? I didn’t check one score on purpose when I was gone. I have 2 wins to watch now that’s fun at least! So if we sweep here are we back in it? LOL.

  28. metsfan4decades

Adam Rubin up next live on SNY…

  29. dentulous

Did anyone tape this? Pls youtube it or something. This was too damn funny.

    Thats despicable
    Omar, over here

i need to see this again!

  30. metsfan4decades

Rubin, to Minaya at the press conference: “Is what you’re alleging that what I did is tear Tony down so I could take his job?
“If I were interested in working in the Minor Leagues in some point in my life, how did that affect what went on?”

I think that’s where the confusion is coming in on him not denying it.

  31. There's Always '09

I don’t read the Daily News, so I’m not sure what Rubin has written in the past. I don’t read his blog either.

Perhaps Omar was getting in a dig at him for starting the Jerry Manuel wanted Willie’s job, so he and Tony B. basically colluded to get it done. I’m not sure if Rubin started that or if he fanned the flames, but it’s the only rational explanation I can come up with. Maybe Omar is wittier than we give him credit for?

  32. Mr North Jersey

Daily News Live has Adam Rubin on right now Oh Baby!

    1. Mr North Jersey

Adam Rubin says he never asked anyone directly for a job in Baseball just how to go about getting a job in Baseball.

      1. Mr North Jersey

Oh Baby Minaya is in serious need of a strict drink.

        1. Mr North Jersey

Adam Rubin says he doesnt know how he is going to cover team now. IWfan saying he can’t cover team anymore. They will replay on WFAN again

          http://www.wfan.com

          1. dentulous

            a parting shot against Rubin.

          2. Mr North Jersey

Rubin better hope Minaya has no resume on file.

Adam called Minaya’s statements Ludicrous and that he was flabbergasted .

Rubin says he has spoken with Jeff Wilpon in the sense of probing how one gets a job in baseball but that that was the extent of it.

          3. Mr North Jersey

So the theory that Rubin was maybe fed info by Minaya to get Tony B fired seems like it is no longer valid.

New theory Minaya (or Jeff Wilpon) angry that Rubin published this story forcing Minaya’s (or Jeff Wilpon’s) hand to have to fire Tony B. threw Rubin under the bus by saying he petitioned for a job in player development that they feel will ultimately force Rubin out as Mets Beat writer and possibly a job with the Daily News.

          4. stickguy

What can Jeff possibly say to that? Either “i’ll give you one”, or, “do what I did, hit the DNA lottery”

  33. dentulous

Omar should not have done that. He refused to say how those Adam’s reports were not as bad as reported and gave no examples of what the Hr report found. If you are going to make those allegations, show us how Adam’s reports were inaccurate, because it does not seem like he just made them up.

    Bad move Omar.

  34. metsfan4decades

Rubin admitting he’s inquired about how one would go about getting a job in baseball. He’s talked with Jeff about it, probing him. He’s never talked to Omar about.

He’s just about speechless. Said the acusation is ludicrous. ‘I’m just floored. I don’t know how I’m going to cover the team now.’

    1. stickguy

should of thought about that before he started smoozing Jeffy to try for a job.

  35. charlie_s

don’t get sny…what is adam rubin saying?

    1. metsfan4decades

See above. Said he’s casually asked Jeff about it. Jeff invited him to sit down and speak with him about it. He never took him up on the offer. He never, ever spoke to Omar about it either.

Rubin is really shaken up over this. Said he doesn’t know how he’s gonna cover the team now.

Heyman said ‘you all know I’m not friends with Rubin, by any means’. That being said, he said it’s unethical for any media reporter to make that kind of inquiry, probably should not have done it. He also said Rubin should insist Omar produce a resume where Rubin actually did lobby for this type of job Omar was talking about.

Rubin will be on Daily News Live at 5pm also.

My opinion: Omar was backed into a corner b/c of the Rubin/Daily News breaking that story in the press about Bernazard. He’s apparently good friends with Bernazard and did not want to fire him. He’s pissed off he was backed into that corner. And he’s taking it out on Rubin.

      1. dentulous

that and probably they dont want Adam covering the team anymore.

    2. metsfan4decades

If you want a synopsis of this, via ‘live blogging’ sbnation – amazin avenue had it going on. I believe the transcript of that is still out there available to read.

      1. charlie_s

WFAN just played it…Rubin sounded a bit defensive about his asking about how one gets into baseball. Not sure what the truth is, but it has nothing to do with this story and just a cheap, classless shot at a reporter that unveiled an embarrassing thing about the team and the disgusting GM. I wonder if Omar is about to get canned and this was his way of hurting the guy that hurt him.

  36. charlie_s

I think I might have to boycott the team until Omar is gone…I’m disgusted.

    1. metsfan4decades

He admitted there were HR reports out there that were being investigated BEFORE this story hit. He admitted Bernazard is not the most well liked guy. But it was so clearly, obviously evident he had no intention of firing him and the only reason he did was he felt with the stories breaking, he had no choice.

I don’t care if Omar was pissed at Rubin for breaking the story. I don’t care if Omar had to fire a friend he personally didn’t want to fire. Going after him in this fashion, at this press conference, was downright unprofessional.

The only kudos Omar gets here is stating unequivocally he was responsible for Bernazard and his actions, same as any guy under him in the organization.

      1. charlie_s

How about Omar stating that he is “completely satisfied” with Tony B.’s work as it relates to the minors? I mean, come on…that’s freaking IMPOSSIBLE!

        1. stickguy

that alone is enough to get Omar bounced!

ALthough to be fair, the talent pipeline, even after a bunch of FA signins, and trades for Putz and Johan, doesn’t look all that bad. It is even starting to bubble up to AA finally.

      2. stickguy

I get discusted that Omar seeming will put his freindship (loyalty to his buds) above the good of the team.

A wise move for someone in his position is to never hire your cronies. ALways comes back to bite you in the butt.

        1. dentulous

watch all newspapers call for his firing now. Bye Bye Omar…

    2. dentulous

that had no place in the conference

  37. stickguy

Fun stuff. And I now regret my post from a few days ago, wondering what could possibly top the latest idocy. I know look at that as the good old days.

I really do wonder if Omar went “off point” calling out rubin? If so, and if Rubin’s spin is accurate, he might be in some hot water.

So, quite likely Omar does have some smoking gun, or at least Jeffy’s blessing.

But, Rubing pretty much did admit to a firable offense. How can a reporter covering a team be dumb enough to solicit the CEO for advice on getting into the biz? Maybe if he did it to the GM of the Mariners or something, but the Mets?

How can this not be taken as asking for a job?

    1. Mr North Jersey

Stick I just posted this but tell me what u think?

New theory Minaya (or Jeff Wilpon) angry that Rubin published this story forcing Minaya’s (or Jeff Wilpon’s) hand to have to fire Tony B. threw Rubin under the bus by saying he petitioned for a job in player development that they feel will ultimately force Rubin out as Mets Beat writer and possibly a job with the Daily News.

      1. charlie_s

The entire press conference was a ruse. The sole purpose was to get Rubin fired for running the story and send a message to the media that if they attack the team, they will be hit right back, and hard!

The media can’t let them get away with it.

        1. stickguy

you are both probably right to some degree.

    2. dentulous

Stick, this team does not need anymore drama aside from the teams poor play and injuries.

  38. JoeR

u have to feel bad for omar or do? lol i mean cmon no comment no comment omar!! your in NY now u dug another hole! oh well im sure omar was just trying to say he didnt take much stock in adams reports but said it wrong. so now how long before omar has to apologize publicly? ugh

  39. JoeR

idk lol he said lobby for a job a few times…he might just be dumb oh omar i liked you…i liked your humble beginnings, etc but geez

  40. Mr North Jersey

I will tell you this Omar Minaya is either the Wilpon’s ultimate puppet if it turns out he was told by ownership to make this statement regarding Rubin or he has huge brass balls to launch the opening shot at the NY Media because let me tell you if you thought it was hot before that is nothing compared to the onslaught that awaits Minaya.

An onslaught I have to say that the only way he survives it is if ownership told him to say it.

Even if they did the only way Minaya sees 2010 as GM IMO is if the team rallies to salvage the season and as we speak the Fat Lady is clearing her throat.

This coming from a Minaya supporter.

  41. stickguy

The biggest chuckle might be Rubin asking Paris Wilpon for advice.

What can Jeff possibly say to that? Either “i’ll give you a job”, or, “do what I did, hit the DNA lottery”. Jeffy has no clue about the BB business, does he?

This also doesn’t add up. Obviously Jeffy at some point told Omar about the conversation, even if it was a slow key as Rubin is trying to spin it.

I would bet Rubin is trying to low key this. Not sure if there is a resume on file (aka the smoking gun), but the team must have something they can use to pin him to the wall.

And did Omar ever actually say Rubing reported anything wrong? That is, did he accuse him of a vendetta? or just state a fact?

But man, if Omar did this on his own, hiw butt is grass!

    1. metsfan4decades

I don’t believe for one NY minute, given Rubin’s comments on air right after and DNL there is any resume on file corroborating Omar’s accusation.

He admitted he’s inquired about it. He’s admitted it more than once in the past hour. He denies that being the agenda behind the Bernazard stories.

We’re hearing parents of players signed have complained about Bernazard to coaches, scouts, agents. Omar admitted HR had complaints on file about him before the latest accusations. I don’t know how that translates to Rubin having a hidden agenda. He got a story, he broke the story. And Omar was then forced to fire a friend, one he did not want to fire, one that probably would not have been fired if it wasn’t for the story breaking.

You ask me, Omar took it all out on Rubin.

  42. dentulous

Why? why are we the only organization that has goons in the FO? Cant the focus on our team be about baseball and not the FO? Is that too much to ask?

The NY Mets, best show on earth…

  43. Mr North Jersey

Rubin is on DAILY NEWS LIVE saying he is getting calls from minor leaguers and their parents and people in uniform that tony b is vindictive and that he was gonna get them. Rubin is in full save my job mode.
Says his stories about Tony B are 100% accurate.

    1. Mr North Jersey

One thing was said that i agree with by the Daily News Live guys and that is that Minaya is known for a thick skin so why do you think he would say this about you (Rubin)?

Minaya statement was truly out of character he has always held a good relationship with the media. Having said that i am starting to believe maybe this was something that Jeff Wilpon demanded Minaya to say.

      1. Mr North Jersey

Ed Coleman from the Wfan is saying he was surprised when Minaya made the statements regarding Rubin.

        1. JoeR

yes everyone was cause it dont make sense….why would wilpons tell him to do it??

        2. Mr North Jersey

The Daily News and the NY Post has yet to reference the Adam Rubin side of the story

      2. JoeR

agreed but why?? you have to know it will open up a bag of worms? i mean i dont work for an hr firm but cmon

        1. Mr North Jersey

Why I can not say. If Minaya dropped the ball and said this without 1st clearing it with ownership you will know soon enough but if you hear ownership back Minaya’s story than it is probably Jeff Wilpon telling Minaya to say this.

  44. JoeR

i thought maybe omar just got caught up being nervous and what not but everyone is saying this had to come from the Wilpons?? idk im leaning towards he just got caught up and spoke freely?

    1. metsfan4decades

Jeeze, those of us following this team all realize Omar is not the best public speaker and is not real quick on his feet with free flowing questions. You would think the Mets PR would know this too. He shouldn’t have been there alone and he shouldn’t have been out there for that long answering that many questions.

Omar was clearly angry and he let it get the best of him. Bernazard was his friend.

      1. JoeR

right but the question is why would the wilpons tell him to say that?? unless u agree with me that its all omars doing?

        1. Mr North Jersey

Time will tell because one thing is for sure this is not the end but just the beginning.

OH BABY I always said I never underestimated Omar because he has been doing this a very long time but if Minaya comes out unscathed from this He will be the new Maverick in town.

          yuu hov big mohbles Minaya

  45. dentulous

well, tomorrows papers should be a good read…. you cant make this stuff up. Just as I posted the Mets show some competence…

  46. mrose

offtopic and shameless NLEC plug — The Braves Baseball Blog has a new couple writers, so expect more out of them now…
    http://www.nleastchatter.com/BravesBaseballBlog/2009/07/27/introduction-series-preview/

  47. billydeewilliams

I didn’t think it was possible for this organization to look any worse. They have been and will continue to be the laughing stock of the league. Hooray!

  48. stickguy

I really don’t care how much worse (if any!) the latest boondoggle makes the team look.

As long as it get the FO cleaned out, and hopefully a new way of perating in place, it will all be worth it.

Besides, if they go on a 45-20 tear to finish the yer, and steamroll into the playoffs, it wil all be forgotten.

Ever notice how the Yankee “circus” ebbed and flowed based on how the team was doing?

    1. charlie_s

I think it’s more likely the Mets win just 20 and lose 45 than the other way around.

  49. stickguy

We will know soon if Omar just snapped, or Jeffy orchastrated this blindside.

Maybe Omar did it on purpose, figuring he was done, and he wanted to get a head start with Tony on his 3 year paid vacation?

besides, lost in all the noise, what Rubindid (not even the way Omar “implied” it, but what Rubin admitted to) is a firable offense.

Think of the outcry if the financial reporter assigned to Lehman bros., just before the crash, was asking the CEO hwo to get a job on wall street? you think his impartiality might be a tad compromised?

I said earlier if Rubin really thought asking a club CEO about getting into the biz, it better be someone far away from the team he covers.

Omar can go, but Jeff better realize he needs to actually hire a BB tsar now, and really give him free reign to remodel the club and FO. Besides, they might win more, making them even more money!
