This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 7-28-09

Good Morning folks it’s time for the ” DUCK !!! THE SHARAPNEL IS FLYING” edition of ” This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty “. So put on your flak jackets and lets get started.
First off on this date the New York Mets purchased Skip “TO MY LOO ” Lockwood from the Oakland Athletics on July 28, 1975.
New York Mets purchased Gil Flores from the California Angels on July 28, 1978.

New York Mets traded Bobby ” BOO!! ” Bonilla and Jimmy Williams to the Baltimore Orioles for Alex ” 5 TOOL PLAYER MY ASS !” Ochoa and Damon ” Son of Don ” Buford on July 28, 1995. My take on this is we cut out a cancer and in return got some sugar pills in return. Bobby Bo had outlived his welcome in the first week he played for us and it took 3 years before our front office rectified the mistake.
New York Mets traded Melvin Mora, Mike ” Mr.” Kinkade, Lesli ” Lesli ? ” Brea and Pat Gorman to the Baltimore Orioles for Mike” ICK” Bordick on July 28, 2000.

New York Mets traded Paul ” Generation Z” Wilson and Jason Tyner to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for Bubba Trammell and Rick ” Chubsey Ubsey ” White on July 28, 2000. – This turned out to be a good low level Steve Phillips trade in essence we got a pretty good bat for the bench and a rubber armed relief pitcher who helped propel us in to the post season.

New York Mets traded Graeme ” AUSSIE ! AUSSIE ! AUSSIE ! OI ! OI ! OI !” Lloyd to the Kansas City Royals for Jeremy ” King of the ” Hill on July 28, 2003.
And here’s what you did’nt see during yesterday’s press conference / debacle.. Mo Vaughn was lobbying to Jeff Wilpon for Omar Minaya’s job.

And on a serious note, I was at last nights game -it was a good game – a real nail biter!! . My only problem was ever since the All-Star Break the Mets said they had recieved permission from MLB to stream live footage during the game on the center field score board so people with obstructed views in left field can see all the fielding plays in the outfield. They did that and as a denizen of the Left field Promenade reserved seats I salute that . The problem is that they also said there would be more Mets history on display by last nights opening series . you know what I saw ? NADA !! ZIP !!! ZERO !!! I asked every official and staff member within my eye range and I got the same old Sgt Schultz answer ” I KNOW NAAHTHINK !!! NATHINK !!!. cOME ON GUYS DONT MAKE PROMISES AND THEN NOT FOLLOW THROUGH ON THEM !!!

Rusty as always I salute thee for a fine column. Adam Rubin’s job may be available shortly and you might want to inquire.

Some people forget that Paul Wilson messed up his arm (I don’t recall the exact nature of the injury) and lost his fastball. Until then he was the real deal.

Alex ” 5 TOOL PLAYER MY ASS !” Ochoa did indeed have five tools…. a screwdriver, hammer, drill, ratchet set, and a box wrench. He now works for Midas muffler.

I heard they were going to stream that live feed on the CF scoreboard.
I didn’t know they stated they were going to add more Mets history by this homestand. My guess is it’s probably going to take them until next season to do what should have been done concerning Met history when the stadium opened.

Someone I was listening to on the radio yesterday – can’t remember who – was commenting how the Astros at Minute Maid park had all kinds of history in their park. There was no mistaking whose home field that was. Their take was how hard can this be that the Mets didn’t make this a priority for opening day?
I just have to wonder, if not for fan outrage, if they even would have bothered….

How do you build a brand new stadium
    with obstructed views???
Bad enough this park is a salute to
    the Brooklyn Dodgers BUT obstructed
    views?? Amazing! Really.

I always liked Skip Lockwood. He was the first guy that brought my attention to the save stat.
