Dirty Scoop: Mets closing in on Wild Card, seek LHRP, WTF!

wtf

According to multiple sources including John Heyman’s latest tweet “#mets seek a lefty reliever. apparently wanted to give p. feliciano a break. some candidates: beimel, grabow, downs.”

So let me get this straight, the Mets are trying to make a move and have identified LHRP as the key piece to the puzzle?  OK so maybe I am delusional but that would be lets see behind… LF, 1B, SS, SP, Manager and if this is the only thing they are looking at then I would put it behind GM and Owner.

Update: If you are into some crazy stuff like self torture you can also check out this link on Maine from John Delcos.  Perhaps Delcos is actually looking to become the Mets 5th starter?

don’t worry trs, we’re getting Kazmir and Crawford.

  2. CaseStreet

Delcos’ piece is a load of bs. “His career may be in jeapordy”. That statement is clearly intended to get hits and start a buzz.

  3. mrose

    career in jeopardy? good stuff

  4. oleosmirf

I dont want Kazmir, knowing our luck he’ll come here and suck and not only will we regret trading him away but we’ll now have to regret bringing him back.

Crawford is a must. he is perfect for this team…

    1. CaseStreet

prob have to take Kazmir to get Crawford.

      1. oleosmirf

        and why is that?

      2. CaseStreet

seems like they’re trying to clear salary for V-Mart and a SPer.

        1. oleosmirf

im sure they can move Kazmir someplace else…unless we can get him for practically nothing…

  5. trs86

Well according to the last info on MLBtraderumors the Crawford, Kazmir, Pena stuff is out too as the Rays are no longer looking at Halladay either.

    1. CaseStreet

but if they want V-Mart, they’ll have to get rid of some money, no?

    2. oleosmirf

yea thats too bad. luckily for us Crawford might be a FA next season…

A Lefty Reliever? WTF is wrong with this team? We need some damn offense and maybe, you know just maybe a starting pitcher to keep up with the Philly rotation. Im content with doing nothing until the offseason, but another reliever is the least of our needs. This is absolute BS.

    1. oleosmirf

we dont need to worry about Philly…they are miles ahead of us…

we need to worry about ourselves…

    heading to game, peace

May you see clear weather and an even clearer win….

  8. dirtysanchez

Of course…a LH reliever was the missing piece. Why didnt we figure this out sooner??

    1. oleosmirf

the thing is now that the Mets are winning Omar probably believes that Sullivan and Pagan are good enough and that the team doesnt need any help.

I dont want to trade any top prospects (not like we really have any) for the tiny chance we have of making the playoffs but it would be nice if we had a reliable starter besides Johan or someone who can hit the ball over the wall…

  9. whataputz

They can fill a hole in the outfield so they don’t need to adress it next off-season which something tells me is going to be a circus.

  10. sabermetrician

How can the Philths get an ace and we get Joe Beimel? Shouldn’t Omar be OVER reacting to his press blunder and make a HUGE move.

    1. stickguy

that is probably th emost dangerous thing for the future of the team (and not just the long shot at the 2009 WC).

Omar dealing in a sense of panic? A chill just went up my spine.

      1. dirtysanchez

Now add that the mets are showing they are trying to get into the WC race and have a chance to make the post season and Omars job is in jepordy. Omar knows a playoff berth after a season like this would enhance his chances to keep a job so this should be very interesting

          YOU GUYS!
          You all have it
          wrong! Omar knows! Trade a
          prospect for Beimel! Send a
          prospect to the
          Nats for a bit
player he could have signed 4 months
          ago w/o giving
          up anyone.
          Yeah,THAT makes
sense! Omar knows! He obviously is the missing piece! Watch out National League, here we
          come!

        2. oleosmirf

well maybe in Omar’s whacky logic doing nothing will somehow make him less likely to be fired…I mean he does nothing every trade deadline so why stop now???

          1. fongy2

            Nice…….True.

      2. fongy2

        Welcome to the party.
        What?,you all get stuck
        in traffic?

also, believe about 1/10th of what you read in the papers and these reports form the “insiders”. Most of it is either total BS, or a kernal of truth blown out of proportion.

Entirely possible that they did discuss (among many other things, I am sure) about getting another (or better) LH reliever. Of course, it could be Wagner. Or Bostick. Or someone else free.

ANd I highly, highly doubt that they had the big “plan for the deadline meeting” and said LH RP, now lets get drinks, and wrapped up.

SOmeone posted Misch’s numbers someplace. Not spectacular, but he only has 16 innings. And from watching him a number of times, he has some very solid outings. And I think 1 bad one that can skew his results.

Just rush wags back as a LOOGY. If he can pitch 2 effective rehab outings, get him to NY.

  12. metsfan4decades

You know, I heard this yesterday from Heyman but figured it was just speculation. So now that it might be more than a rumor, well….I’m scratching my head.

I can’t see the need for another left specialist in the pen unless we’re looking towards next year and hoping to get a good deal. As far as this year, we’ve got Pedro, and hey, we might very well be getting Wagner back mid August. He could share those duties with Pedro, couldn’t he?
Someone mentioned above, we have Misch too – even though he hasn’t pitched much so far, he has been fairly effective.

    I don’t get it….

    1. dentulous

its beyong comprehension. We could have gotten a nice bat for LF to keep us in the WC race and even fill the void for next season. Who the hell knows what is wrong with this organization. It is always something. Omar was probably in his closet today, too shamed by his behavior to call anyone.
