Injury Repooorrrr

- Jose Reyes is “somewhat progressing” from his right leg injury, Jerry Manuel said. But the Met shortstop has yet to run the bases during his rehab, the manager said.
- Carlos Beltran self prognosis is 2-2.5 weeks. Carlos Beltran hit in the cage today
- The Mets no longer think of Maine in terms of this season, and two people in the organization said recently they have heard the club’s private sense of the effect of the pinched nerve in his shoulder may be that he never will pitch again without pain, some of it acute.

if they cant get Crawford, we should then focus on a SP. Niese and Ollie are both erratic and have no command, Pelfrey is borderline retarded and Livan is going to have bad games every once in a while…
besides Santana we have no good reliable starters. We need to change that up and bring in someone who can get the job done a good majority of the time…

So…..we need a good starting pitcher. I’ve been saying that since May. Said we were one injury away from a disaster and really, what’s changed?
- Maine might not be coming back – ever.
- Garcia was a bust.
- Redding hasn’t helped at all. So much so he’s now in the BP and I believe the only reason he’s still here at all IS because we’re now fairly short handed with the starting rotation.
- Nieve didn’t pitch long enough to determine if he’s going to be any help next year. I believe it was 4 games. 3 very good ones, 1 poor one. Big question mark on him and I don’t think we can pencil him in with confidence for next year’s starting rotation.
- Ollie is, well Ollie.
- Niese is just getting started. If not traded, he’ll probably be in the starting rotation next year.
- I doubt Livan will be back next year – or slight chance as a reserve for depth.
- That leaves Santana and Pelfry.
What am I missing here? We need staring pitching.

yeah, and it doesnt look like anyone good is available in the offseason. Plus, who knows how much they will spend on a pitcher since ollie took a crap load and is giving us nothing.

Until we hear the results from Dr. Andrews, I’d take the “Maine’s career is over” news w/ a grain of salt.
Perez is Perez, somewhere between a 2 and a 4, so I’ll say a 3.
Same can be said for Pelfrey.
Niese has now had 8 good starts in a row. He’ll have hiccups but he looks to be ready to stay w/ the Mets.
Holt, if he remains on track would need at least another year, but def would be ready to replace Ollie when Ollie’s contract is up.
So yes we need a #2 SPer, but we do have some young guys coming up, too.
