Pelfrey
First up is Mike Pelfrey. Big Pelf stepped it up tonight and bounced back for 6.1 innings of shut out ball. Pelf threw 71 pitches out of 115 for strikes and was able to pitch himself out of trouble the whole night. Its games like this that really confuses me about Mike. I mean he can seem so effective many times and others times he just seems like he is not even there. Gotta like what you saw tonight from Pelf, especially bearing down to get Barmes to pop up to end a bases loaded threat in the 5th inning. Well done Mike.

Feliciano
Next up is Pedro Feliciano. Where did this Pedro come from? Pedro went 1.2 innings of shut out ball to preserve the win for Mike Pelfrey for his 19th hold of the season. Pedro owns a very cool 2.75 ERA and has definitely put into question the whole LOOGY debate. Now while he owns lefties with them hitting only .185 off him, he owns a .275 BAA for nighties and apparently Manuels trust to get them out. Pedro is and has been an important piece of this years bullpen cog and im glad we kept the right lefty. Good job Pedro

Murphy
Next up is Dan “The Man” Murphy. Who would have thought the key to getting the Mets on a role was sticking Murph in the cleanup spot lol. Murph had a good night at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI and accounting for 2 runs. Now Murph doesn’t have the sexiest BA(.248) on the team, but he is putting on a highlight reel at 1b, Not to mention having a .987 Fielding percentage(compared to .956 as a LF). Keep it up Murph
Honorable Mentions:
Luis Castillo remains white hot as he drove in another RBI when he singled in Alex Cora
Jeff “F-Core” Francoeur drove in another RBI. Seems like its a daily thing for him
David Wright for going 2-3

Big Pelf really had good stuff last night. Few pitchers are just going to keep the bases empty most of the time, so it was very encouraging to see that when he did put men on base last night, he was able to work out of it.
Perpetual Pedro was excellent last night. He was funny after the game talking about how he was going to set a personal record for most appearances this year. I hope that idea is still funny in October.
As far as Murphy fielding at 1B, a few people here continue to harp on him as a poor fielder. I don’t know what they’re watching. He’s been a revelation at 1B. Has he made mistakes? Sure, but clearly more comfortable there and showing good signs of really becoming a plus fielder there.

i agree. Murph has definatly worked hard at 1st and i feel confortable he will make the routine and occasional outstanding play.

I love that it’s the role players making things happen.

Murph as our current clean up hitter. LOL. I have no idea how we won 4 games with this type of lineup by hey, whatever is working, do not fix it….
Luis Castillo drove in another RBI.
Jeff Francoeur drove in another RBI.
If anyone told me in April this is how we’d be winning games in late July, I’d have laughed right out loud.

I think we need to go with a very non traditional line up. One where Jerry thinks outside of the box, which is exactly what he has done with Murph batting cleanup. We dont have that power threat and to “manufacture” it by shoving someone in the 4 hole is silly.
Murph there (so far) has been a great idea as he doesnt strike out much and routinely puts the ball in play. He doesnt need to crank home runs batting 4th with he has Castillo and is .400+ OBP in front of him, just needs to keep on doing what he’s doing!
