in reference to the casey quote – i wish he was still alive lol – but last nights game was a real nail biter but its good to see this team come to life – look i have no delusions of granduer but I dont think its too off the wall to think we can get the wild card

I think you are right, but the pitching needs to continue to dominate and we desperately need a solid left fielder (bat wise). Tatis and Sullivan are not going to get it done at the plate.

you are right but you know if reports are correct and carlos beltran is back soon that means frenchy in right, the mole in center and a platoon of shef and pagan in left – thats a pretty above average outfield

I dont want Beltran back if he is injured. What is the point of him coming back when the bruise has not healed, and then it can increase in size again? I would rather him heal it and get ready for next season. I really hope he wont be needing surgery

completely understand your point – im just saying if he does make it back – even pagan in cf and shef in lf would be a more than adequete outfield -im just saying Ive been scouring for mets trade rumors and the only thing i saw was that we had general intrest in scott kazmir – thats like saying i have general intrest in a hemi challenger – I might want it but i dont have the resources to get it

They have plenty of resources to get Kazmir.

He looked pretty good last night against the yanks.

for some reason, he always does! Them and the red sox have been his entire career just about.

I still dont want he though. I think the ship has sailed on Kazmir and to bring him in now would be a foolish attempt to undo the Zambrano trade, IMO.

where did you hear that Beltran maybe back soon? I thought he was pretty much done for the season.

Beltran said two days ago he’s tired of ‘resting his knee’. Said it wasn’t showing improvement in size but he doesn’t have the stabbing pain he had a month ago.
Said he’s going to start working out because he wants to come back. He admitted it might only be about 80% but he wants back. Sounds like he’s thoroughly disgusted with all things doctors on this injury.
What I’m surprised about (or maybe I should not be), is the Mets are letting him do this.
If all goes well, he predicts he’ll be back in 3 weeks.
They said Delgado is 2-3 weeks away.
They said Reyes is 2 weeks away.
I’ll believe it all when I see it….

I just caught Jeff Wilpon’s interview re: the Minaya/Rubin saga this morning and not for anything, but he’s not exactly William Jennings Bryan either. Sometimes my greatest fear is that we have another James Dolan on our hands. I wish we could send him back down to brooklyn for some more seasoning. Come on Jeffey pull it together.

Well, Jeff is in his position for precisely one reason and one reason only.
And now that you mention it, William Jennings Bryan was not the first guy I thought of either when listening to Jeff speak.
The Dolan comparison is a scary one indeed. No amount of seasoning can make Dolan anything other than what he is….apparently they call him “triple” around the Garden, as he was “born on third base and thinks he hit a triple.”

Damn, you may have me here…Todd’s nickname?
I know he worked at I think it was Party Boys, where he met Rahad Jackson….his nickname…
I am going to have to think about this between work tasks and respond on a later thread!

I actually could care less. Yes, Omar messed up by finger pointing a writer in a live TV. But this thing is also way over hyped by the stupid writers and media people. It’s like they want to show Omar and Wilpons who the boss is. No wonder the media get the bad rep. It’s like all of media versus Omar/Jeff.
Personally I don’t care who this Rubin guy is. He’s probably some stuck up, and arrogant writer. If he can write crap about Omar, why can’t Omar do the same thing about him?

I agree 100%.
Rubin is just another guy who thinks the sport is about him.
It’s not.

Crawford is the guy we need. he’ll bat .300+ 40+ SB and him and Reyes would be dynamic at the top of the order. If we could get Pena too that would give us a great defensive 1B with power but I wouldnt make him a priority.
I dont know what it would take to get them but I am willing to part with all 3 of Murphy, Evans and Niese as part of the package
Reyes
Crawford
Wright
Pena
Beltran
Francoeur
Castillo
Catcher
Great defensive team with speed and some pop then in the offseason we would need a catcher and 2 SP and thats it…

I agree. I like all of what Tampa has to offer. I’m just wondering what it would take to get them. Mets hate to give up their young prospects and that is what Rays will look for.

If it’s a salary dump that doesn’t cost big prospect, sure. I’d like to keep Niese, Holt and F-Mart.
I’m just wondering if we can afford 2 of the 3 Rays on the block. I’d be happy w/ one.

i have no faith that Niese will ever become a top flight starter. No command is a big problem (yes i know he’s young) and Murphy doesnt have the bat to stay at 1B.
I would start with Niese and Murphy and work from there. If they want Lee and Martinez then that means Pena is probably out and they dont have the money to resign Crawford next year as a FA so it shouldnt take much to bring them in.
If Pena makes the deal that much tougher than forget him, Crawford is the man we need…

The jury is stil out on Niese. He’s been hot for 8 straight games now.
Crawford has to be the guy. Playing at Citi, he and Reyes would lead the Majors in Triples.
Problem w/ that is then you still need power, unless we also get Pena.

7/29/2009-10:28am at 10:28 am (UTC -4)
Crawford and Pena would be a huge addition thats for sure. I’m not sure what it would cost to get them though.
Murphy would have to be there and Omar wont trade Niese probably so it would have to be something like Murphy, Niese and one or more of the teenage prospects…
oleosmirf
7/29/2009-10:29am at 10:29 am (UTC -4)
i would think Niese would have to be in there b/c he’s the only real pitching prospect we have besides Parnell and Holt…
