At what point is the great
      Tim Redding shown the door?

      1. dirtysanchez

        in november..

        1. fongy2

          unreal!

      2. GravediggerHebner

I would’ve said “when Maine comes back” but if these same reporters that I loved so much in the other thread are to be believed on Maine, he’s never going to pitch again.

Fongy sometimes you suggest that I had a certain thought and I didn’t have that thought, so let me say for sure that I DID think Redding was a good signing and would be a roughly average 11-11 4.50 type pitcher for the Mets so the next time you want to call me out on having a bad idea, I was wrong on Redding.

In trying to really think through what the Mets might do with Redding, I’m going to guess that Dirty is right and he’ll be gone after the season based on the fact that the Mets just DFA’d Dessens so now Redding is the only long man.

If they somehow acquire a starting pitcher then maybe they would move Livan to the long man role and cut Redding, but that’s the only scenario that comes to mind.

          Way to man up
Heb! I like that about you.
          Redding has,is
          and always will
          be a bad pitcher.As much
          as I thought he’d stink,more
          I couldn’t understand the
rush to sign him.January 9th?? At BEST,
          this was a guy
who IF you needed to fill aroster spot, either with us or Buffalo in,say
          mid March AND
          hes still out there…Okay..
          maybe,BUT January9th????

          1. GravediggerHebner

In their signing of Redding, I guess it’s one or both of these two things:

            misread the market, or

            misinterpreted the talent.

I misinterpreted the talent and therefore allowed myself to think the signing was OK in terms of timing and dollars. Perhaps Omar did the same thing.

          2. fongy2

You have a legit excuse, Omar doesn’t!

    guys mets today is saying

Omar Minaya has a press conference scheduled for 11 AM.

    1. fongy2

      Err, its already after 11:30.

    2. GravediggerHebner

It was an apology press conference, no trade or anything.

He said “my thoughts were wrong” about thinking Adam Rubin was “lobbying for a job.” So IMO that’s a solid admission of an error in judgment and he did say he was sorry.

So is this issue over? I doubt it, but IMO Omar has at least properly dealt with it so it can begin to get put behind us.

My gut feeling is, contract extension and Madoff notwithstanding, Omar will be fired after the season. The press from this is just too bad and even though as I said I think he’s dealt with it properly now, it’s never going to go away, especially not in this market.

      1. dirtysanchez

im soo curious about how they will handle this. I mean they done everything they can with PR damage control…I think if it was up to the wilpons, omar would have a job but since they fell to peer pressure with tony, i think the same fate may await omar. Bottom line…dont talk when your angry. A lesson that omar learned the hard way…it was only supposed to be a 3 minute conferance…oh what omar would give to have those 5 minutes back now im sure.

        1. GravediggerHebner

It’s always the momentary decisions, like your namesake deciding to get in a cab at 2:00am to get some food.

  3. whataputz

I hope they try to deal for V-Mart, Cleveland might feel up against a wall now and we could see his price drop rapidly at the deadline.

  4. Joe R

Wonder what deals Omar turned down…too bad he didnt say Halladay lol imagine another circus from his comments

  5. Joe R

And he said some pretty big names?? Oh man I really just hope Omar isnt stuck on not dealing FMart lol If teams are requesting him and thats the deal breaker…damn…get over him Omar

    1. whataputz

I think the days of teams going bonkers for f-Mart have come to a halt. I think next season F-Mart is now going to have to start producing to have value as opposed to his reputation.

      1. Joe R

Agreed…thats what Im afraid of lol

      2. GravediggerHebner

I agree. But I also realize he’s 20 years old. We can count on one hand the 20-21 year olds actually producing anything of note in the majors. Like the Rolling Stones might’ve sung, time is on his side (yes it is).

      3. fongy2

        FMart will still be
        here after Omars gone.
        This is his baby!
        The first of his
        Dominican academy guys
        who he’s been touting
as a cant miss for 5yrs
now.Depite the fact that the kid has been
        injury prone and never
        shown himself to be
        even,above average at
        any level and hasn’t
        shown any tool which
would lead one to believe he actually
        is a can’t miss.
        Omar,won’t trade him.

        1. whataputz

couldn’t have been put better. The fact that other teams would actually trade anyone talented for him just because ‘he’s only 20″ baffled me as well.

        2. CaseStreet

I don’t get the anymosity. F-Mart is 20 and is listed by many to be the Mets top prospect, not just by Omar.

Are you upset that F-Mart gets injured? or that He hasn’t “produced”? or is it something else?

          1. whataputz

I’m upset that we could have traded him so many times for big talent, and have come up a game short 2 consecutive seasons. I’m upset that this guy is injured 2 times a year gaurenteed, and when he actually plays even at the AAA level doesn’t even put up great stats…i just don’t understand the hype. He’s not a big power guy, he’s not too fast, he’s a pretty good fielder, idk how good of an average he can put up. He just doesn’t look like a guy who should command high value to me is all.

          2. fongy2

            Case,if that was directed
            to me,Pls
            understand,No anymosity! BUT
            as much abuse as
            I’ve taken for some
            of my stances
and later shown to be right, let me explain again…
I hope FMart becomes a superstar for us!However,
            I’ve seen this kid
            ALOT since 2007 and
he’s never shown ANY particular skill
            which would separate
            him from
            the run-of-the-mill MLB player.
            He’s not dominated at ANY
level and never even been close to being the best player on the field.
On top of this he’s always hurt.
            Now THAT
            may change..
            or not.
He may con’t to improve…or not
No,I dont just want to trade him for anything, anywhere BUT the fact that this guys been deemed untouchable for yrs now is absurd!
            But THATs Omar!
Once his mind is made up about a player,
            thats it!Its done!
            See:Julio Franco,Moises Alou,Luis Castillo,Tim Redding,etc,etc……..

          3. CaseStreet

gotcha, though I don’t know how he can be expected to dominate when he’s always been rushed/challenged.

I wouldn’t want to trade him for anyone either, but if it’s for someone like Halladay, I’d be all for it.

On the other hand, teams are trying to hold on to their rookies, unless they are blocked or can be easily replaced. That could be a reason why the team would rather hold onto him. It all goes back to Madoff.

          4. fongy2

            OK.I dont disagree.

          5. fongy2

Just to clarify on him”dominating”what i mean is that there have been “cant miss guys”like a Greg Jefferies or Miggy Cabrera who at the same age just killed AA pitching. While FMart has looked like a kid with pretty good talent whos very young and is a long way off yet.

          6. CaseStreet

don’t know fong, looking at Miggy’s Minor League stats, they’re comparable to F-Marts. Miggy did have a Monster yr in AA and w/ Marlis @ 20, but b4 they’re comparable. F-Mart is playing in AAA @ 20 and was doing well. I’d say the jury is still out on F-Mart. Plz not I’m not saying F-Mart will be Miggy, just that their minor league stats seem comparable.
