Mets Trade Rumors

4:20 pm: Jon Heyman tweeted that Jake Peavy was traded to the White Sox for minor leaguers.

4:05 pm: Fox Sports is also reporting that the Marlins got Nick Johnson from the Nationals for pitcher Aaron Thompson.

3:40 pm: Jon Heyman tweets Scott Rolen has been traded to the Reds, pending Rolen waiving his no trade clause. Fox Sports says the Blue Jays get Edwin Encarnacion.

3:20 pm: According to Chico Harlan, the Rockies have traded for Joe Beimel.

3:17 pm: Joel Sherman reports that the Yankees have traded for Jerry Hairston, Jr. of the Reds

3:16 pm: Yahoo’s Gordon Edes is reporting that the Braves have acquired Adam LaRoche from the Red Sox for Casey Kotchman.

2:35 pm There are multiple reports saying the Red Sox have traded for Victor Martinez of the Indians. Jonathan Mayo tweeted that Justin Masterson and Nick Hagadone are in the deal.

1:15 pm: ESPN’s Amy Nelson, tweeted that the Dodgers traded for catcher Vinny Rottino from the Brewers for pitcher Claudio Vargas.

1:10 pm: per Yahoo’s Tim Brown, the Twins trade for Orlando Cabrera sending Tyler Ladenorf to Oakland.

11:45 am: According to Mike Salk of ESPN radio in Seattle, the Mariners have traded Jarrod Washburn to the Tigers for pitchers Luke Scott and Mauricio Robles.

Here’s Dave Cameron of U.S.S. Mariner and fangraphs.com, take on the trade.

As a Mariner fan, this trade makes me want to jump up and down and hug someone. The M’s turned a 35-year-old lefty strike throwing flyballer who is due $3.5 million over the rest of the season and then becomes an expensive free agent into a 24-year-old lefty strike thrwoing flyballer who is due $0 over the rest of the year and won’t be a free agent until after 2015. And they got a 20-year-old lefty with huge strikeout numbers in A-ball to boot.

Thanks to MLBTradeRumors for the tip.

I said in February that b/c of the Mets refusal to better the team, i would not spend a ridiculous amount of money to watch a barely improved team (even if everyone stayed healthy)

how the Mets could think Murphy/Tatis in LF, no capable starters on the bench, Ollie, Pelf, Redding and Maine as 2-5 were good enough is beyond me. I spend all offseason criticizing Omar for not signing a bat or SP and most of you told me I was crazy and that there was no way Pelf, Ollie and Maine could have bad years and there was no reason Murphy and Tatis would never have down season this year.

Well now I’ll tell you this. next offseason they better improve that rotation and get some guys who can actually hit the ball over the wall more than 10 times…

very good points. due tot he circus surrounding this team i think its crutial to make an outrageous move in the off season as in not only get an ace but get an ace and another very solid starter, and acquire a power outfielder.

      1. dentulous

dont get yourself worked up. this offseason is going to be lame. We can thank outrageous contracts to ollie and castillo and bernie for that. We probably get a pitcher (not an ace), I also think we are gonna see Murph @ 1st and FMart in LF.

Would not be shocked to see payroll go down.

You guys bring up a very good point about next year and signings the Mess may make. Point me to a list of Free agents if you would be so kind. I’d like to hypothesize on what may be.

And needing to get another ace? no. don’t get me wrong, i’d like 4 other aces. I just think 2 B to B+ pitchers would be sufficient. anything that pushing ollie to #4 or #5.

there was a time when everyone; black, white, brown, asian, was allowed to post comments on metsblog.com and posts would reach the thousands sometimes in 1 section! But like the mets team, matt cerrone has disappoint us as well. Is there anything with any affiliation whatsoever to the mets that does anything right in any capacity?

    1. Mr North Jersey

While I agree about the cerrone cult following, there were so many people and the format was very nice.

            lol…its time I admit this.

I’m actually Omar Minaya. I was following this site all day and totally forgot to attend today’s draft. My bad guys, keep buying tickets and Mets merchandise!

          2. Mr North Jersey

It’s OK Minaya since the draft ended months ago.

          3. whataputz

O really…than why is everyone so angry at me?

          4. Mr North Jersey

I think its because of all that Man-Love you have for that Tony B dude.

Open question: What do you expect from F-Mart? what do you see as his future whther it be he or in Toronto or whatever.

    1. dirtysanchez

I dont think we have enough of a sample size to know what to expect from the kid…

      1. whataputz

I truly believe this guy will never play more than 60 games as a met, but will not net in a significant player.

        1. dirtysanchez

not anymore…omar held on too long..again. Lets hope we are wrong and he turns into the next Carlos Beltran…. :/

    2. steveo

Fmart has 1 major thing to prove and that is whether or not he can stay heathy at 20 or 21 he needs a solid year in aaa and not be touched even for a 2 week call up next year et him grow and then work on the power

    3. sabermetrician

      Low side: Alex Escobar
High side: Mike Cameron without roids.

  6. Mr North Jersey

So Here is what the 19 year old Jenrry Mejia is doing down in AA
He sports a 93-95mph fastball and a hard sinking changeup

    IP/21.2 H/23 ER/9 HR/2 BB/9 SO/24 ERA/3.74

Here is what the 22 year old Brad Holt is doing down in AA
He sports a 93-95mph fastball with control

    IP/41.0 H/41 ER/25 HR/7 BB/11 SO/37 ERA/5.49

    1. sabermetrician

Sure am glad we hung onto them. Phew.

      1. whataputz

no i see what they’re doing. It’s reverse-psychology. By refusing to make trades, teams will want to trade with us! Of course then we will promptly reject any offer.

      2. Mr North Jersey

You mean you don’t feel better knowing we have 2 legit fireballers that are a season away from blowing MLB away?

You just wait and see you will soon be part of the “Holt’s Bolts Crew” and “Mejia’s Disciples”.

BTW Mejia according to ancestry.com means the following:
Spanish (Mejía): probably from a religious byname (possibly under Jewish influence), from a vernacular form of Latin, Greek Messias ‘Messiah’, from Hebrew mašia?h ‘anointed’.

        1. whataputz

I already have a cheering section. we’re big fan of #23, we call ourselves “Schneiders List”.

          1. Mr North Jersey

            LoL!!!

  7. sabermetrician

Reality has set in guys. We suck. Welcome to the early nineties.

    1. whataputz

At least I have the jets, knicks and rangers to look forward to. Those winners!

      1. sabermetrician

I used to find solace in the fact that at least the Knicks were more laughable than the Mets…not so anymore.

        1. whataputz

I’m not joking when I say this. I think that of all those 4 teams the Knicks will be the first to win a ‘ship. followed by the Rangers. I can;t ever see the Mets or jets winning though. i just cannot picture a scenario in which the Mets actually won a big game.

          1. dirtysanchez

should have won in 06 man….
