The Mets originally said the shortstop would run the bases at full speed, which is considered the last hurdle before Reyes can start playing minor-league rehab games.
But Reyes wasn’t able to circle the bases in Port St. Lucie because of tightness in the hamstring, and the Mets now will only say they are hopeful he can do so sometime this weekend.
So much for Omar’s strategy. Good Job backing that plan up with the trade deadline. My take on the deadline is this, its already stated that both Reyes and Beltran are not coming back 100%. Delgado just had major hip surgery and Wagner/Putz coming off serious shoulder surgery. What on earth are you expecting out of these guys. Omar said he considered where they are in the standings and the prospects they were being told to give up. Now we may never know the asking price for guys but I am disappointed we didnt make alot of noise to protect ourselves in the event these guys dont contribute at all…which is a possibility. I believe that Omar knows this and just excercised his GM instinct to protect the farm but in doing so….has he just put us at 4th and 20? I guess we will know soon enough if we will call a hail mary or just punt.

This season is over. I really thought with the way the team was playing that adding a piece could make a difference. I think next year is gone too. Reyes may never be the same player again. Beltran might not play next year. We should have sold what little we had to sell if we weren’t going to try. 2011 anyone?

Im ok with everything that transpired today except not getting VMart!! This on top of helping us this year would have prevented Omar having to revisit the catcher spot this off season….unless of course Santos is our long term option. He can play first as well and help next year Murphy platoon or at least provide a nice emergency back up. He also provides that extra pop we have been looking for the last 3 years! For what we most likely could have gotten him for its the perfect move anyway u slice it. What a shame. He wouldnt take a spot or a log jam when our guys get back either.
I really think Omar knows these guys arent coming back soon or this year at all and thats why giving up prospects for no reason wasnt done. If Omar believed these guys were coming soon I believe he would have made a move to keep us close around .500 til we were able to make a push. So Omar is lying to us a bit and his comments today did contradict themselves Im OK with this. I mean he really cant say listen our guys may not come back so im not wasting even 1 prospect on a rental. But VMart?? Really Omar….??
