The Mets leading HR hitter has been activated from the DL. Robinson Cancel has been DFAed to make room.  To make this normal move have more drama and controversy, Manuel has said that as long as this lineup is producing then Sheff will sit the bench. Two things here: Isn’t this like the game of seeing how much milk you can poor into a glass? You will never know until it runs over. Thus we won’t know if Gary is needed until we lose? Second, Sheffield has been a model citizen this season, however, he was not happy about the DL stint and may be even more unhappy about the bench. What we DON’T need is an unhappy Chef in the Kitchen.
Update: Nelson Figueroa has also been announced as Monday’s spot starter. It is unknown who the Mets will send down at that point. Could it be that Redding gets his release?

Never would have imagined that Sheffield would be our “savior”. What an odd year this turned out to be.

At this point I would release Redding. He has not been what Omar or most of us expected. The cost is sunk and we have better options. Figgy also would be the better option for long reliever as well. Cerrone mentioned Misch but he has not looked bad and is the only other LHRP. Redding well… Stinks.

Misch can be DFA’ed in 2 weeks when Wagner returns.

Good. Glad to see Figgy getting the start Monday over Redding. He’s been that good in AAA and I’d like to see if that continues in the ML. Minimum, I think Figgy is a better idea for the BP in long relief than Redding.
Don’t know what to make of Sheff not being inserted back in the lineup though. His bat is probably better than anyone who has been playing there the past 10 days but his defense is not. He just can’t cover the ground the young ones can.

True about Sheff, I guess having a true PH is not bad either. I am guessing Sheff gets the starts against LH for now.
As for Figgy, yes he would be better than Redding as a choice to for Long Reliever AND the spot start. Redding at this point needs to be released. There is no way he is coming back next year and provides us nothing now.
I just don’t understand what happen to Redding.

Once Shef is ready I want the everyday outfield to be F-Core, Pagan (till Beltran is back), and Shef……….they need all the offense they can get.

Like I said it depends. We do need offense but it’s not like the crew have not been holding their own, especially defensively out there. I would just work Sheff back in slowly starting against LH. Thing is you have enough depth that you can always start Sullivan and then have Sheff as the PH or LF replacement depending on what the situation is in the game. Sullivan comes up with men in scoring position in the 4th inning, go with Sheff… But yes eventually I agree Sheff needs to be there.

Two guys that I think could help the Mets that should be able to pass through waivers. Garland and Nomar.

Garland I would take a chance on. Not sure about Nomar. Didn’t I read in the beginning of the year he was thinking about retiring? Was he doing that bad? Maybe I’m thinking of someone else…

Also, I have another question. Why do we need to wait so long on Wagner’s rehab? So he can only pitch 1 time ever 2-3 days right now? So. Misch has not pitched in over 10 days.

I’ll bet that Wagner’s choice. Based on his earlier comments, I’ll bet he doesn’t want to rush things, wants to make sure he’s fully ready. I’m sure this has less to do with coming back and helping this team then in making sure he’s healthy enough to showcase he can still pitch for a future contract.

Maybe, but to him I am sure he feels he is ready. Every minute matters to his audition. I still think if we fall out of it before August 31 we should trade him.

Good point. Especially (see below) if J.J. will be back for September.

LOL, I would trade him too.
Wagner and Putz are very dangerous to us. We can’t pick up their options and we can’t offer arbitration because they might take it.

You know the mets were never wiz kids when it came to roster moves. While i do think that wags needs to pitch in a certian number of rehab games in order to be cleared to return. I know its not as many as a SP.

Pregame show said J.J. threw 25 pitches today and he looked very good. Not sure of his timetable for a return by they were impressed with his pitches.
J.J. himself wouldn’t give a timetable until his next throwing session but when asked about the pain level before the surgery and now he said ‘night and day’.
Jeeze, they all come back in the same week they can throw a big ‘Welcome Back’ party.

I know, amazing isn’t it. Wagner and Putz to the pen could be huge. Question is who goes? I am guessing Misch and Redding?

Agree. Dessens is already gone and you certainly wouldn’t keep those two over Green or Parnell.
Misch wasn’t all that bad but since no one has seen him in like 10 days it’s a sure bet Jerry does not trust him, especially as he’s a LHP and the only other one we’ve got right now is Pedro.
Just showed J.J. interview on pregame and he said he wants to come back in Aug., does not want to wait until Sept. He said his goal is 3rd week of Aug. but he’s not focusing on that right now. Will know more on Wed. when he throws again.

Yup, if we are in contention then I expect
Krod, Wagner, Putz, Stokes, Parnell, Feliciano, Green.

LOL. Yeah, I would have lost that bet big time if I was putting my money on first one back. What’s even stranger is I’ll bet they’ll ALL be back before Reyes (Nieve excluded).

Looks like it. I have not heard when Delgado will begin rehab games.
