Mets Notes:

Wednesday’s rainout and the subsequent doubleheader put the Mets in need of a spot starter for Monday’s series finale against the D-backs. Rather than use Tim Redding, who has been pitching in relief and is not fully stretched out, the team decided to promote Nelson Figueroa, who has been pitching brilliantly for Triple-A Buffalo. Figueroa’s last Major League assignment came in April, and his last outing against the D-backs came in April 2002, against a team that included Luis Gonzalez, Steve Finley and Mark Grace.

Diamondbacks Notes:
Haren said that facing the Phillies’ lineup (the opponent in his most recent start) was like pitching in the All-Star Game. The Phillies made him work hard, fouling off pitches and running the right-hander’s pitch count up early. Haren left after five innings having already thrown 117 pitches. It was the second straight start in which he has lasted just five innings, the only two times that has happened to him this season.

  3. dentulous

Hell, I think Redding could have went at least 4 or 5 before giving up a crap load of runs.

          3. Cause the mets are a train wreck, dont want to watch the horrors in front of you, but cant look away.

    Dang, Figgy.
This season is so unpredictable for the Mets. We actually score 5 here off Haren but Figgy has to give up 6 by the 2nd inning.

  8. whataputz

Wow, only the Mets! This would have been a very nice win to have.

  9. steveo

At this rate we should finish 74 and 88 that aint going to do it

  10. dentulous

At least we cant blame this one on the normally poor offense. They hit Haren hard. Damn you Fig!

Figgy is like the backup quarterback. Everyone loves you until you actually have to start a game. Then we learn why you are always the backup and never the starter.
