Man Up Awards For Wednesday

Figueroa

Figueroa

First up is Nelson Figueroa. It takes alot of balls to want the ball after an outing like Figueroa had his last time out. If anyone needs a reminder he went 1.2 innings giving up 6 ER. On Wednesday, Nelson turned from zero to hero in his effort on the mound and at the plate. After the heartbreaking injury to Niese, Figueroa entered the game to a shower of boos. That all changed when he hit a long triple to bring in two and add on to the Mets lead. On the mound, Nelson did a complete 360. Nelson went 4.1 innings of shut out ball to earn the win. Great job Nelson

Wright

Wright

Next up is David Wright. David had to be the coolest guy ive seen to take an intentional pitch at his head in stride. What lead to this was yet another plunking of Albert Pujols, this time by Nelson Figueroa. Nelsons pitch was not intentional at all but i guess Brad Thompson and Tony La Russa felt differently. Brad Thompson let one fly right at Wrights noggin. It missed but that was enough for MLB to issue a 3 game suspension for the act. Wright hit his 8th homerun of the season and is looking like the Wright of old. He also went 3-4 for the day. Wright is one of the last men standing from opening day(along with Daniel Murphy) and that alone should merrit a MUA. Congrats Dave

Pagan

Pagan

Last up is Angel Pagan. Pagan went 3-4 with 4 RBI’s and a HR. Is there a hotter hitter on the Mets team right now? Every day cementing a spot for 2010, Angel again delivers when the Mets need him most. Over the last 10 games, Angel is hitting .309 with 2 HR’s and 18 RBI’s. With Jose Reyes falling further and further behind from actually making an appearnce this year, having Angel in the leadoff spot has been a godsend. Good game Angel..keep it up.

Honorable Mentions

Bobby Parnell for his 3 innings of work for his first career save

Jeff Francoeur for going 2-3…oddly with no RBI

One of my favorite wins of the season so far.
I thought this was a loss going in, looking at the lineup and the pitching match up. Once Niese went down and Figgy came in I knew it was over. Needless to say, I was wrong.

And that’s why I keep coming back watching these games even though the season is essentially over….

I thought Nelson was going to be wearing uniform # 360 in someone else’s spring training next year after that awful start. Kudos to him for rebounding in relief.

You wrote: “On the mound, Nelson did a complete 360.” I guess 36 years of teaching forces me to correct. Think about it. Turning 360 degrees (a circle) gets you right back to where you started. Nelson did a 180, not a 360.

Let me 1st say Welcome Hdarvick to T.R.D.M.B. it is good to know that there are educated Mets Fans in T.R.D.M.B. Could it be that the 360 reference was a way to suggest Nelson got spun around in circles and hence would not see himself landing on a completely different team next year?
