Future Met?
According to The Canadian Press and multiple other sources, the Toronto Blue Jays OF Alex Rios has been placed on waivers and a claim was made by an unidentified team.
- Could that team be the Mets?
- Would he help the Mets?
- Is he worth the $58.7 million dollars he is owed from 2010-2014?
Answer these questions, other questions, make statements or ask questions yourselves in the comments section. That’s what it’s there for.
UPDATE:
- Per The San Francisco Chronicle the San Francisco Giants “hint strongly” that it was not them who made the claim.
- Per The Boston Globe the Boston Red Sox did not claim him.

Just too steep a price, contract wise, especially for the cash-strapped Wimpons. I like Rios, he’s got a lot of talent, but was given a pretty ridiculous contract. So, I really don’t see the Mets being the team that claimed him.

I don’t think it was the Mets either, but we hadn’t had a post in 7 hours and those hours weren’t 12:00am – 7:00am so I decided “why not write a little something?”

My guess is it was the Yankees. With Gardner on the DL they need someone to give Melky a blow now and then.

Please no, the last thing we need is a huge contract for an under achiever.

Earlier this evening on WFAN, callers were calling in, telling MF it was the Mets that claimed him. Mike’s take on it was he was worth the contract $$ he’s getting but it didn’t make sense for the Mets to have picked him up now. Said the Mets would be making their deals in the off season, not now.
Haven’t taken a look myself to see if he would be worth the $$s, but if yes, and we’re looking towards 2010, what difference does it make when the FO makes these deals?
