“And the torture never stops” – Frank Zappa
Good Morning my fellow Mets fans . I was on my way home from a reunion last night when I heard K-ROD channeling his inner Armando Benitez .And all I can say is ya know ya gotta admit we are finding creative ways to lose at least. Anyway it is time fro the Saturday morning edition of “This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty” So here we go !
Happy Birthday to one of the most underrated power hitters of the ’60′s with the Washington Senators and the Mets – Frank ” Hondo” Howard (1936) Frank as we all know later on became a coach for the Mets from ’82-’83 and later became interim manager for the team after the dismissal of then manager George Bamberger.
Also one year older today is relief pitcher from the ’98 team John ” HUDAT?” Hudek (1966)
New York Mets traded pitcher Frank ” Hey Moe !” Lary to the Milwaukee Braves for Dennis ” Bon” Ribant on August 8, 1964.
New York Mets traded Rob Katzaroff to the San Francisco Giants for Kevin Bass on August 8, 1992. Unfortunately it was a past his prime Kevin Bass and he retired after the season was over.
New York Mets traded Lance “Speedy” Johnson, Mark “Bar” Clark and Manny Alexander to the Chicago Cubs for Turk ” The Missing Link” Wendell, Mel ” Hairbreath” Rojas and Brian McRae on August 8, 1997. – I am mixed about the trade cuz I liked Lance Johnson and Manny Alexander – but at least we got a dominant ( and quirky) setup man in Turk.
And lastly all Mo Vaughn is listening to is ” The End ” by The Doors . Mo says it reminds him of this team.( I personally think he has the right idea )

Sad when Frank Zappa is the highlight of a Met day.
Kevin Bass did a mean Sammy Davis Jr. impression.
