Good Morning to all my fellow Mets fans out there . I guess for those of you who are just woke up and didn’t see all of last nights game I guess I am the bearer of bad news -yup thats right another loss. So as this this team spirals into the abyss of irrelevancy let me take you to a somewhat happier place – the place that is “This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty”.
First off Birthday wishes go out to the much maligned G.M of the ’70 – ’73 team. The late Bob Scheffing (1913). Bob’s name is synomous with the Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi trade, but people forget that Nolan threatened to retire if he wasn’t traded – Bob’s fault was he didn’t get back a quality player in return. And I am sure when M. Donald Grant is breathing down the nape of your neck you would make any deal just to keep him at bay.
Also another year older is former Mets minor league manager and coach for the George Bamberger/ Frank Howard led Mets teams Bill Monbouquette (1936) ( try saying that name five times fast!)
former Met scrub from the ’80′s and one time Arizona Diamondbacks manager Al Pedrique turns 49 today .(1960)
and perenial September call up pitcher for mid ’80′s teams, John “Horses” Mitchell is 44 (1965)
New York Mets claimed Jeff Tam on waivers from the Cleveland Indians on August 11, 1999. – Damn I forgot all about Jeff Tam !!!
And the Mo Vaughn tidbit of the day – He is really into polka music and going to Oktoberfests !!

I will never forget that Nolan Ryan trade. I knew he wanted out but also knew that was going to come back to haunt us…
We sometimes forget just how incredibly bad some of our former GMs were. I knon it was different in the days before FA, but dang, what we got back for both Ryan and Seaver was almost criminal….
