I will admit to not knowing who this legend was but since you provided the video, I listened to it. He certainly had one fine, smooth sound. Sounds like the world truly did lose a music legend.
Fantastic choice of video today TRS, kudos. Les Paul was truly “an American” and he is one of my American heroes. I can’t imagine how much less joyful my world would be without the electric guitar. “How High The Moon” is one of my all time favorite tunes. Thanks for the tribute.
I would have talked about Les Paul earlier but I thought it would date me ( I used to modify Dynaco ST70 tube amplifiers for friends that were forming their own bands and couldn’t afford anything more expensive) and no one else would know who he was, much less have any interest. As a young’un I purchased my first Les Paul recording with Mary Ford singing “Via Con Dios†on a 78rpm record.
Wow, 78 huh? As a kid I had “record players” that had 78 as a speed option (along with 45 & 33 1/3) but I didn’t have any 78s to play on it. I would play 45s at 78 for kicks to make them into Chipmunks songs.
Don’t worry about dating yourself. I think that’s Salvador Dali as your icon, about as many people don’t know who he is as don’t know who Les Paul is. I’m 43, I don’t think I’m too old to make immature picture laden contributions to a sports blog, and whatever your age I don’t think you’re too old to share whatever knowledge and wisdom you’ve picked up along the way. Anyone over 30 who uses the internet for anything more than email is a friggin’ genius and is alright with me. Thanks for sharing.

I can’t believe I misspelled that. It should be “Vaya Con Dios.â€

Just finished up seeing the American Masters’ series on Les Paul. Quite an impressive man. R.I.P
