40 years ago today a music festival opened on a farm in Bethel, NY. 1969 will always be a good year for Met fans, and it was a good year for music festivals (and astronauts) too. The festival was well attended and would become an important moment in the history of the United States, known simply as Woodstock. Richie Havens was the opening act. Please enjoy his .500 beard and his opening song, Freedom.

PBS and VH1 had some really good shows on Woodstock. I never knew there was a movie made from the festival. I’m ordering it tomorrow.
