Mets Notes:

After finishing July with three straight quality starts, Hernandez has faltered in each of his past two outings, including a loss to the D-backs his last time out, when he allowed five runs on seven hits and couldn’t reach the fifth inning. Monday’s start will be Hernandez’s first against the Giants since May 15, when he took a no-decision after allowing five runs in five innings at AT&T Park.

Giants Notes:

San Francisco (63-54), which has dropped six of nine, counters with rookie Joe Martinez. The right-hander, a native of South Orange, N.J., is looking to rebound from a 9-1 loss to Los Angeles on Tuesday when he walked three and allowed four runs and seven hits in 4 1-3 innings. Martinez, who will make his third career start, is 1-1 with a 5.79 ERA in two appearances since returning from the disabled list after getting struck in the head by a line drive by Milwaukee’s Mike Cameron on April 9.

Livan stinks but Redding is even worse. Thanks for another great signing FO, you’ve given me so much hope and faith for this next offseason. I had no idea a career ERA+ of 85 warranted as much money as we gave Redding.

      I Told Ya So!!!!

  2. fongy2

Now, did I read correctly that Omar
said Dave Wright was suffering from
    “Post concussion syndrone”????
Who did this come from? Our Medical/
Training staff?? If so, that alone should be reason to find a whole
new staff!!….Post concussion syndrone CANNOT be identified and
    correctly diagnosed until a minimum
of 7 to 10 days AFTER a concussion
    has been confirmed.
    This team really is unbelievable!!
Again, please, for the love of God….
    Freddy, CLEAN HOUSE!!

    1. tkfj

Wait, you are actually trusting Omars opinion on any matter? He doesnt know baseball to well, and now hes trying to be a medical specialist. What a buffoon.

    2. GravediggerHebner

I haven’t seen that quote anywhere.

What I have seen multiple places is that David Wright is suffering post concussion symptoms, not syndrome. Symptoms. They both start with “s-y” but there is an important difference. Every interview I’ve seen and every quote I’ve read they have been very careful to use the word “symptoms.”

Speaking of things that sound like that I am enjoying my night off from post game blogging by watching NY Giant linebacker Clint Sintim rush the passer quite well.

      1. trs86

Yeah, you may get two nights off. No questions yet for the Dirty Table. LOL. Bad timing.

        1. fongy2

          REAL bad!

      2. fongy2

        He isn’t suffering
        “post concussion”
        anything Heb!
        He HAS a concussion.
        Jesus Christmas!

        1. metsfan4decades

I’ve read in several blogs it’s stated he has ‘post concussion symptoms’, not syndrome.
Symptoms meaning, headaches, etc – which I’m assuming is the same as actually having a concussion.

        2. trs86

Well it’s just wording I guess. But according to the net, post concussion can actually be the period directly after the concussion causing event. If those symptoms last more than 2 weeks then it is considered syndrome.

          1. fongy2

            Wherever
            you read
            THAT…
            its flat
            out wrong!

          2. fongy2

PCS isn’t diagnosed until Atleast 7to10 days after suffering the injury.
Unless of course the Mets staff are the ones making the call.

          3. trs86

Still missing it. Post concussion SYNDROME is not but some consider the symptoms after a concussion event occurs to be considered Post concussion SYMPTOMS.

        3. GravediggerHebner

One of the definitions of the word “concussion” is:

a violent shock as from a heavy blow.

They are simply using the word concussion to describe the moment the ball hit Wright’s helmet. They would use the word “blow” but they know how immature we are. Every moment since then therefore has been “post-concussion.”

          1. fongy2

            Not per
            Mt.Sinaihospital
            my friend!
            I know,
            went through
            it!

          2. GravediggerHebner

I’m not talking about Mt. Sinai hospital.

I’m talking about laypersons (not medical professionals) discussing a blow to the head.

That’s also why it’s very important that they have been correctly using the phrase “post concussion symptoms” instead of what would be the completely incorrect phrase “post concussion syndrome,” because the word “concussion” takes on a different meaning depending on which context/phrase it’s used in.

If at any point someone with the Mets had described Wright’s condition as “post concussion syndrome” your initial point above in this thread would be well taken.

But the fact that they said “post concussion symptoms” is just fine. I have no problem with the phrase whatsoever.

I know you dislike and disrespect Omar and therefore will use anything at your disposal to criticize him, but I think in this case he has (for once) demonstrated excellent command of the English language.

          3. fongy2

            Wow!
”’Just shaking my head over your statement about me….

          4. fongy2

And b/t/w,if I am incorrect in what I thought I heard this morn on FAN,
AND Omar said Post concussion symptoms,he’d STILL be wrong!
            HE HAS A CONCUSSION!
            Its not “post” anything!

          5. trs86

Again there are plenty who use the event as the concussion and symptoms as post concussion symptoms. I would hope that most people knew the difference in symptoms and syndrome.

          6. trs86

So would it really have made you feel THAT much better for Omar to come on and say. David Wright got smacked in the head and we are putting him on the DL?

Or even Wright is suffering from concussion symptoms?

          7. fongy2

no actually,it would have been nice for Omar to keep his mouth shut as has has lately OR simply say,Wright has a concussion and is being placed on the DL and we’ll see what his condition is in acouple weeks.Like he should have ten diff times with other guys this season.

          8. trs86

But it’s just words, words that are even acceptable. Omar is not the first person to refer to symptoms after the concussion event as post concussion symptoms.

  3. metsfan4decades

Best part of this game was the post game, actually Sports Night after that where they played Billy’s interview:

Writers: ‘Do you expect to be traded?

Billy: ‘Do I expect to be traded? Phhht. Are you gonna put words in my mouth or are you gonna print what I say?’

Sports night comment: well, that’s Billy being Billy…..

Kudos to Cora for playing half the season with not one but two tendon problems in both hands. He’ll have surgery in a few short days so he joins the DL party….

    1. trs86

So he did not answer the question?

      1. metsfan4decades

Well, he didn’t answer the question about being traded.
He said basically, he wants to come back to help the team, to dispel the rumors that his career is over.

BTW: did we cancel the live chat for tomorrow night? I tried to email my question three times and got:

Delivery to the following recipients was aborted after 0 second(s):

        * trs@nleastchatter.com

        1. trs86

          whoops, LOL wrong email. Damn.

          1. trs86

            trs86@nleastchatter.com

    2. fongy2

      Second the thought on Cora!

  4. GravediggerHebner

Big Blue wins on an interception return as the 4th quarter clock strikes zero. At least one of my favorite sports teams had a good night.

    1. fongy2

      Except the game doesn’t count.
I think they are the NFC favs
      though!

      1. GravediggerHebner

The game counts to all the guys playing in it trying to make the final roster.

At least a pre-season football game has that aspect to it. Unless/until the Mets bring up some actual prospects (at least in the context of their roster) and give them some actual playing time, the remaining regular season Met games seem less significant to me than pre-season football games. That’s freakin’ sad.

        1. fongy2

          Score means nothing though.
          Thats what I meant,
          Sadly,theres really no one
          to bring up.
          Another indictment of
          Omar and his
          staff,but be critical of me
          not him.

          1. GravediggerHebner

I agree with this particular criticism, because I believe the only person who would have been brought up in this circumstance would have been Niese.

So IMO they had 1 guy to bring up. Unfortunately due to outrageous improbable injury circumstances he was brought up previously, then got injured himself.

But just having 1 guy to bring up isn’t enough.

Also, important point that you have shared with me before so now I’m returning the favor: I’m not being critical of you, I’m being critical of one of your opinions. Huge difference.

You’re always welcome to express your opinions here. I hope you understand though that when someone disagrees with one of them that they are also allowed to express their opinion, and perhaps even engage in productive dialogue with the person with whom they are disagreeing.

          2. trs86

Well we had Evans based on last year’s stats and he tanked. Fmart also got injured but was terrible while here. We did trade away most of our MLB ready talent for Johan and Putz. Not saying they were good.

          3. GravediggerHebner

That’s why on this point I agree with Fongy.

The other guys we think to mention either aren’t good or, while they had trade value, so far anyway haven’t been good either.

Regardless of what major league team the player(s) may be on right now, the Mets system is not supplying the major leagues with a lot of quality since Omar took over.

          4. fongy2

Well thanks! LOVE the new pix Heb!
Where can I go to do one of myself?? And b/t/wTRS,you do know we draft new players every yr,right?

          5. GravediggerHebner

Speaking of that, the Mets signed their top pick Steven Matz (2nd rounder). I will note that in Tuesday’s “draft & follow.”

You can make the face/head image at this website:

            http://www.planetcreation.co.uk/createpic/

But as far as getting the Met hat put on it, you will have to ask Mr. North Jersey really nicely and maybe he’ll help you. He put the hat on mine. The Met hats might just be for site authors so no promises.

          6. fongy2

            Alright!
            Thanks Again!
And thanks for the good news with the kid from the Island!
Have a good (rest of) the night!

  5. asod75

G-Men win. I doubt they’ll let me down this year, especially since their front office has a brain and a plan.

    1. fongy2

      AND DEPTH!!!

      1. trs86

Even though I want Omar fired, you think the Giants would survive if Manning, Jacobs, Umenyiora, Pierce and 2 others went out?

        1. fongy2

          Survive? Yes,
          thrive? no.
          However,they
          did more than
          “survive”w/o
          Umenyiora all
          season,Jacobs
missing time and Pierce being distracted last
          year. Ofcourse
          no NFL team can
thrive w/o their QB if hes
          on the level
          Eli is.
          It is apples and oranges
          though.
But for the Omar excuse makers, the injuries suffice.
          As if this team,if healthy
          was going to
          thrive this season anyway.

          1. trs86

We will never know unfortunately Fongy. We can all debate that one for the rest of the year as that is more fun than watching them. I would have much rather had everyone healthy and see what would have happen and been able to make honest decisions instead of I think so’s. Now no matter what this offseason no matter who is making the decisions it will be full of I think so’s and very few I know so’s.

          2. fongy2

Lets all hope it aint Omar!
            Time to move on.
            I was a supporter
of Omar but have moved far away from that

initially slowly but now as far and as fast as I can AND so should The Wilpons.
They tried and it simply hasn’t worked.
