Mets set franchise record with 10 hits in 4th inning
The New York Mets set a franchise record in the 4th inning with 10 base hits. They used the 10 hits to score 8 runs and take an 8-4 lead against Atlanta Braves starter Derek Lowe (12-8). The Braves had gained the lead on a 2nd inning 3-run homer by Matt Diaz and a 3rd inning solo shot by Adam LaRoche. Down 4-0, the top of the Mets order came up against Lowe in the bottom of the 4th.

The Mets scored 8 runs in 1 inning!
Angel Pagan led off the 4th against Lowe and hit a liner that contacted Lowe on his glove hand in the wrist area. The ball bounced to Braves shortstop Yunel Escobar but he was unable to field it cleanly and Pagan was credited with a single. Braves trainers and coaches visited with Lowe and after 1 warm up toss he continued. In hindsight perhaps he should not have.
Luis Castillo singled. Gary Sheffield hit a 2-run double to score Pagan and Castillo and make it 4-2 Braves. After Daniel Murphy grounded to 2nd base for the 1st out, Jeff Francoeur doubled in Sheffield. Fernando Tatis then drove in Francouer with an RBI single. Omir Santos singled to put runners at 1st and 3rd. Anderson Hernandez singled to drive in Tatis. The 9th batter of the inning, Met starter Oliver Perez (3-3) singled to load the bases. A Pagan fielder’s choice grounder scored Santos. Pagan then stole 2nd base, and Castillo knocked Lowe from the game with a 2-run single. 8-4 Mets.

The final score was 9-4
In the 7th inning a Santos fielder’s choice ground out scored Francoeur with the Mets 9th and final run to make it 9-4. Every Met starter had a hit. All together the Mets had 17 hits, so you know what’s coming next.

Surprise, not!

You just reminded me that I have to install a new mail-box.
I missed the game so I didn’t see the record breaking inning but in the future naming the players involved in this Mets record will make for a great trivia question.

Clever.
Good game. Who would have thought the replacements could break out large?
Ollie tweaked his bad knee on that play at first. Interview after the game indicates he might miss his next start. Should know tomorrow morning where he stands – if it’s swollen. Can’t imagine who they come up with for a replacement. I’m still trying to figure out who Andy Green is. And Valdez on his way back up to take Cora’s place.
No offense against any of these guys personally, but what a team. Then again, they managed 8 runs in one inning tonight against Lowe…

amen to that. in the “when i become gm” category, fixing the uniforms/color schemes would definitely be on the list. Give me the pinstripes for home, the road grays, and if a 3 uniform is needed, those throwback were cool. just maybe not have the N and the Y so far apart. Any farther apart and they’ll have to put the numbers on the front and have Y N on the back.
Black has got to go.
