Game Time: 7:10pm

Record: 3-4 Era: 3.50 K: 46 BB: 25 WHIP: 1.54
Mets Notes:
Parnell was fabulous in his second Major League start on Friday, limiting the Giants to three hits in six innings. He struck out a career-high seven while walking none in the Mets’ 3-0 win. Parnell has made six relief appearances against the Braves this season, allowing two unearned runs on five hits in four innings. Two of those hits, including a double, belong to Martin Prado. The Braves as the whole are 5-for-15 off Parnell this season.

- Record: 9-8 Era: 2.99 K: 109 BB: 54 WHIP: 1.26
Braves Notes:
Jurrjens’ lone mistake against the Phillies on Friday night resulted in a Chase Utley two-run homer that accounted for the only runs he surrendered over seven innings. The 22-year-old right-hander proved to be more impressive than he’d been while allowing the Dodgers four earned runs in both of his previous two starts. Jurrjens tossed six scoreless innings against the Mets on July 17, and during his only previous start at Citi Field — on May 12 — he allowed two runs over 7 2/3 innings. He is 3-1 with a 2.84 ERA in five career starts against the Mets.

Well at least we can stop paying attention to this one already. Ouch Parnell, although following the game online it looked like a bunch of grounders and bleeders got through until McCann unloaded on his homer. Still, not an encouraging game from Mr. Parnell…..

I briefly turned on the game to see Castillo be a spectator on a groundball to short when he should have been covering second that helped prolong the 2nd inning. The Braves scored 8 runs and I thought it interesting when Keith mentioned that when the hitters return to the bench after facing Parnell they would say he throws everything hard. Parnell will not be successful against the better lineups unless he masters his secondary pitches and learns how to change speeds.
While Parnell is still in the process of learning Castillo is a veteran that seems to lose concentration and becomes too comfortable at times. If the Mets are to contend next year they have to rid themselves of players that at times just seem to go through the motions.

Cstillo has to go. I don’t care that he is somehow keeping his legs together and has a nice OBP, stuff like this play (which would have had Parnell in the dugout down 2-0, and nothing hit hard off of him) is unacceptable, but all too common from him.
He doesn’t bring enough to the table offensively to be a dog on defense. And while you can accept a guy trying but not being able to do something, skipping BB basics like this? Ugh.
Jerry, if he wasn’t a clueless dope that lets the inmates run the assulym, should have pulled a Gil and walked out and removed Luis on the spot.
