He’s a Livan on a Midnight Train to …

According to Bart Hubbuch, the Mets have released Livan Hernandez after a terrible July and August.  Livan did exactly what we hoped and expected him to do.  Give a lot of quality starts and hold down the 5th spot until July for Niese.  Only problem is the same damn problem we have had with everything else.   ‘

To take his spot will be Billy Can I Find A Job For Next Year Wagner.  Stay tuned as to how long Wagner stays in his place.

So hes leaving the life hes come to know
(he said hes going)
He said hes going back to find
(going back to find)
Whats left of his world
The world he left behind
Not so very long ago
Oh yeah

Hes leaving
(leaving)
On that midnight train to georgia
(leaving on a midnight train)
Oh yeah
Oh yall
Said hes going back to find
(hes going back to find)
A simpler place and time
(and when he takes that ride)
Yes he is

I agree. We got exactly what we thought Livan would give us…

I’m confused though. One less starter. It’s not like we’ve got any days off for awhile. On top of that, there was some concern about Ollie and his knee with missing a start.

So who takes his place as a SP? Redding? Figgy? Don’t exactly think those are upgrades.

      Good post, I agree completely.
      Hey,wait…maybe thats why
      I agree?

For once, the prevailing wisdom was right. Livan would be servicable to above average as a #5 for a few months, but somewhere around mid season he would fall apart. Bingo!

And as noted, Neise not being ready on schedule fouled up the replacement options (along with Maine being hurt, and Redding stinking).

ALl I can figure with the timing is they didn’t want to see him pitching BP to the Phils lefties, especially if it was on the 1969 retro night?

I guess the rotaion (untill call ups) is Johan, Pelfrey, Parnell, and Redding? With the 5th guy being Ollie if his knee is OK, or Figgy if not.

    The Redding signing in mid-January
was the first sign to me that this
season may not be what we all want
it to be. STILL don’t understand it.
Fire Omar, Hire Bobby V, and find
a GM hes comfortable dealing with.
He shouldn’t have been fired in
    the first place.

Redding was odd. It seems like the plan was for him to be a long man, and emergency starter (a peerfectly logical role for him). But the 2.5 mill was way out of whack for that.

I will chalk it up to Omar being a screw up. IOW, the atch all catagory for all strange Met moves not related to Jerry being an idiot.

        Agree! As big a problem
        as I had with signing
        Redding at all,even
        bigger prob was how
        quickly he was signed.
        Why the friggin’ rush
        to sign this guy.

Redding replaces Livan…somehow I don’t see this making the team any better.

Saves a little on cold cuts??
      Especially the sliced roast
      pork!

Nevermind, I guess the Mets are potentially saving $550k by releasing him early.

        How does that work?

I wonder who takes his spot in the rotation…
    my money is on figgy…

Steve Popper on twitter says that one Mets player said Sheffield has been released…waiting for further confirmation… (this could just be a false rumor)

      Hope the next one is
      “Omar has been released”
