This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 8-21-09

Good morning guys. Just a few quick thoughts before we get to the infamy , so here we go. Last night was a heart breaker ( C’mon Murph atleast take a pitch!) Livan you pitched the well in the first half of the season with smoke ans mirrors, too bad the teams in the second half treated you like like a third rate Vegas lounge magic act in the second half. Billy good to see you dominate in your “comeback” last night to bad this is like that old Groucho Marx song ” Hello – I must Be going!” and to Gary Sheffield just play out the string and you will get a decent contract as a DH next year !
Ok now for the infamy !!
Celebrating birthdays today:
Jim Beauchamp is 70 (1939) Jim played with the Mets as a reserve outfielder in the early to mid ’70′s. The Mets traded Jim Bibby and World Series hero Art Shamsky for him.
Felix ” The Cat” Millan is 66 (1943) Felix was one of the catalysts of the ’73 N.L East Championship teams and is still a fan favorite to this day.
Super star ( and often injured ) catcher from the late ’70′s John ” Nails!” Stearns is 58 (1951) Stearns was one of our few bright spots during many dark seasons.
Bruce Berenyi is 55 (1954) Bruce was a blue collar pitcher who got by on on his off speed stuff – he wasn’t an ace but he got results !
And lastly Guys lets hope we fight these Phillies tooth and nail tonight !! to be a spoiler you have to beat the good teams !! So lets help the Marlins overtake the cheese steak eating morons from the land of quakers !!!

Am I the only one who couldn’t give less of a hoot about the whole “spoiler” thing? Maybe it’s because I’ve lived in DC too long and seen one too many Nationals’ spoilers commercials. If you don’t know, almost every Nationals’ tv commercial is about how exciting it is to be a spoiler. They’re completely over-the-top ridiculous, and pitiful. I don’t want to stoop to that level.

I have two goals for the Mets this weekend, and only two:
    1. Trade Billy Wagner for at least one prospect, preferably two.
    2. Beat Pedro to a pulp.

      yes….lol j/k

you guys have been peeking at my post later on lol….
I dont particularly care for it but since this season has been dreadful, might as well look foward to something….

Boston just released chris duncan..i think the mets should make a play and get him

Chris Duncan and his .188/.255/.294 AAA Red Sox line can stay at home.

I guess the Nats have to promote something to keep the fans coming to the park and/or watching…

I have no desire to ‘beat Pedro to a pulp’. I want to sweep the series with the Phils (yeah, I know, a long shot), but don’t have any animosity against Pedro at all. I just assume we win that game by beating their crappy BP to a pulp…..

Okay, where has the morning thread been? I loved having a place to kick off the conversation in the mornings.

sorry Charlie, been super busy. I’ll get it back on soon.

Cool. I just love having one place to start the conversation. It doesn’t even have to have all the links. Just a post that says morning thread.

I understand the Giants claimed Sheff, Minaya wanted top talent for him, and the Giants wouldn’t deal. Isn’t any talent and/or prospect better than nothing for Sheff?

    1. whataputz

I can’t believe he slipped past every single AL team! He’s a very solid bat, especially at DH and the Tigers are paying almost all of his contract.

      1. whataputz

O right never mind forgot that NL has priority….with that said we should have taken any level prospect since we have no need for him.

“Hello I Must Be Going” was Groucho Marx? I am embarrassed to say I’ve always attributed that to Phil Collins. Whoops!
