I’m so new to this level of observation of the minor leagues that I have no idea if Matz will pitch or not. All I can say is that to the best of my knowledge he hasn’t “pitched in competition” since his HS season ended, and the GCL season (where they sent him) ends on 8/30. Including today’s game, they have 8 games left, so time is running out.

Point being…I wouldn’t focus too much on Matz, because even if he is going to be a difference maker, when he is actually ready this team will be totally different.

If that’s the way you prefer to regard minor leaguers in your favorite team’s organization that’s totally cool. For me though, when the major league team is as uninspiring and irrelevant as this 2009 Met team has become, I look to the minor leagues more than ever. I’ll be paying much more attention to September callups this season than I would if the team were in the pennant race. To me, any good performance from a minor leaguer right now is a ray of sunshine poking through the dark cloud of this major league season.
