Mets Notes:

Redding returns to the rotation to fill the void left by the released Livan Hernandez. Redding is 1-3 in nine starts this season with a 6.99 ERA, but he did pitch well in his one start versus the Phillies. In that June 11 start, Redding allowed three runs on six hits in seven innings in a game the Mets lost 6-3 in extra innings. Redding is 5-3 with a 3.34 ERA in 12 career starts against the Phillies. Philadelphia’s roster has a career .223 average in 188 at-bats against Redding, led by Chase Utley’s 9-for-21 with two home runs. Ryan Howard is just 3-for-24 while Raul Ibanez has one hit in nine at-bats off Redding.

Phillies Notes:
Against the Braves on Sunday — after a rain delay of almost two hours — Happ put forward another brilliant start in what is becoming a truly impressive rookie campaign. The Braves managed just three hits off Happ in 7 2/3 innings. Happ did walk six batters and surrender a solo home run, but he battled through a couple of jams and stranded six baserunners. Happ will next try to fare better against the Mets than he did his last time facing them, when he lasted just 5 1/3 innings and surrendered four earned runs on six hits.

Are you seeing this? Apparently all the injuries have sent Omar off the deep end. He’s signed a bunch of old guys. They didn’t even have time to put their names on the back of their uniforms.

Can someone please explain to me why Jerry took Redding out after 5 innings of 1 hit ball? A pitch count? He was cruising. Bring him back out on a short leash. But you take him out for Micsh to give up the lead?

I just do not get it. Sigh…

In the 3rd inning the late Gil Hodges was already mapping out his strategy for the 6th inning. Jerry on the other hand is in the 6th inning mapping out his strategy for the 3rd inning.
