Good Morning to all my fellow Mets fans. I can now finally say that the Mets front office did something right last night with the tribute for the ’69 World Championship team ( except for those self important usherettes that that got visibly testy when our stars of yesteryear didn’t do exactly as they were told ) . It was great that they brought back former G.M ( and M. Donald Grant puppet) Joe Macdonald along with the daughter and granddaughter of original owner Joan Payson ( even though they helped the late ’70′s teams spiral into oblivion). It gave me goose bumps to see Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver and Jerry Kooseman throw out the first pitches to Yogi Berra, Jerry Grote and Duffy Dyer respectively. Hey even the Philthy Fans seemed to be impressed with all the pomp and circumstance that filled the air in Flushing Bay ( but hey they get impressed by watching repeats of the Wiggles!) SO we lost last night – it’s par for the course . Okay so Omar isn’t getting fired ( as per Fred Wilpon) would you expect anything less? So just sit back sip yor coffee and enjoy the Sunday morning edition of “This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty.
First off happy birth day goes out to a 20 year veteran of the big leagues ( and a manager of our single A team) Julio ” The 2000 year old man” Franco (1958) All I can say is he was a good edition for veteran leadership in ’06 but why we signed him in for a 2 year contract in ’07 is beyond me.
Gary Carter’s backup – Ed Hearn is 49 (1960) .
Third string catcher Raul Casanova is 37 (1972) . And to think he was our best pinch running option last season !
Prospect that never went any where – Prentice Redman is 30 (1979)
Pitching prospect that never quite made it – Pat ( DOCTOR) Strange is 29 (1980)
New York Mets traded Gary Bennett to the Colorado Rockies for Ender ” Not Endy” Chavez on August
And lastly just a request to the Wilpons – PLEASE BRING BACK A REAL OLD TIMERS DAY NEXT YEAR !!!!!!

Old Timers Day, Banner Day, Mets committee on retirees and retiring numbers….all seemed to have gone by the wayside. This is an organization coming up on 50 years of history. Between that and having to be practically browbeat into putting history in our new stadium, makes you really wonder if the Wilpons have any clue at all concerning the fan base who feeds money to their coffers….
