This can only happen to the Mets If we would of got CC or any other ace I am sue they would have the same problem

    so umm….whos got a gun?

lol The Mets are suffering from the Wilpon curse. Fred Wilpon must ask forgiveness from the Baseball Gods and for building a ball park that pays homage to a team that left New York in 1958 turning down an offer to build a ball park in Flushing. All references to the Brooklyn Dodgers, except in a passing comment, must be removed from Citi Field post haste. lol

I hope I am wrong, but I said a few times this year that Johan didn’t seem to be “right”. At least not by his standards.

COuld also explain why he seemed so hittable in a few games.

At least he will have plenty of years left after he recovers from the (seemingly inevitable) TJ procedure.

Oh, and this is why most teams won’t give long (5+ year) contracts at big $$ to a pitcher.

Can we at least wait until we find out more info before determining that he is damaged goods and nees TJ?

      1. stickguy

that was a little gallows humor, given how this year has worked out medically for the Mets. Hence, the parenthetical (seemingly inevitable).

Actually, with this years Mets, the leprosy/arm flying off toward home plate option seems quite plausible too.

          Agreed.

Why should any of us be surprised? The icing on the cake.

That being said…the fact that he’s struggled a bit this second half, which is unlike is norm, I had thought there was something probably bothering him. If it’s not serious (bit your tongue on TJ), then to me this is actually a relief. A nagging pain/injury is a better explanation than he’s starting his decline years earlier than he should.

So…Frenchy with a torn ligament, Johan to be examined by a specialist.

I see no reason for Johan to take a chance the rest of the season. Hopefully, no surgery required so just rest it for the final 5 weeks and we’ll see you back healthy and strong next year.

Luis Castillo = The Iron Man. Whooda thunkit? I guess all these injuries must be a byproduct of his health, some sort of balance in the universe thingy. It makes me feel better about it to blame him, you guys should try it.

Say it with me: “Luis Castillo, these injuries are your fault!”

    1. whataputz

And you know he’ll be the injured one next season..those mets! Can’t say I’m shocked about johan, he hasn’t seemed himself for a while now. And yeah, he’s been good, but johan being good is not johan.

Over/under on years until the Mets are competitive again.

    I think I’ll set it at 4.

      I smell a push.

By the way, they are not doctors and they don’t play doctors on TV, but according to Pelfrey and Francoeur, the news on Santana gets worse:

Oh boy!! great…question if TJ surgery is needed what is the time table and what are the odds he gets back to 94??

      2. wannybackstra

My favorite part of the article is the part about him having felt the pain in his elbow for the last 2-3 starts.

Well, it’s a good thing they waited… idiots.

    2. darknova306

I’ll take the over… that’s a no-brainer to me. Omar’s under contract until the end of 2012, I believe, so give his successor 2013 and 2014 to repair the damage. We’ll compete again in 2015.

  8. JoeR

So Johan, Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, Wagner if you want to include him…why not we paid for him lol

Wow! Hopefully a blessing in disguise cause I mentioned it a few times how 90 mph will not cut it even with a great changeup. On one hand I am so thankful something is wrong and hope the “something” is what is effecting his velocity. On the other I hope its a quick fix, like by spring training. Seeing him on the mound throwing 94-95 would be nice!! I really pray he gets back to throwing hard…I mean we are known for getting stars well past their primes but now please dont tell me we get guys, like Johan and Krod, in their respective primes and they lose 5 mph off the fastball!! Say it aint so…

    1. JoeR

With all the injuries I guess the Johan strikeouts and velocity issues hasnt even gotten past a whisper. It is a pretty HUGE damn issue!! This guy is our ace and in his prime for the most part. I think in part we are all guilty because the thought of a sub par Johan would have been too over bearing! Well guys it wasnt too long ago he was on SportsCenter every week, esp in the second half, mowing hitters down with 6 straight K’s and 12 K games.

Lets Go Mets!!!!….2010 I mean…Is there any chance Thloe or Thole can be our starter next year if he comes up soon and performs? Dont know too much about him…Is he a good defensive player and please tell me he has pop?? Cause add Catcher to the list of positions needed!!! I mean can we really expect a number 2 starter a power LF and then a 1B and catcher….UGH…it hurts! I have a feeling Murph and Santos will be starters..Ouch again

Omar fix this and trust me all will be forgotten cause it will take a miracle.

    1. darknova306

      “Omar fix this”
HAHAHAHAHA! Sorry, that joke really got me. :p

Don’t forget we need a real right fielder, too. I have no faith in Failcoeur.

Sad news for you mets fans tonight I was at yesterdays game to see the the new park. Very nice by the way ,anyway came to see the mets phillies and I have to say that was not the mets out there I really hope johan is ok because its no fun rooting against this current group of players there just not the mets without wright and reyes hope all is well for johan.

    1. metsfan4decades

      Hey, thanks.

You know that all of we Met fans are holding our collective breaths for further news. Losing him the rest of this season – no big deal. Losing him for next season? Unthinkable…

    2. dirtysanchez

I always wanted to know how philly fans feel about the rivalry given the mets situation..i mean a win against us is a win against us but does it feel the same as the last few years?

      1. fightins

I have to admit it really isnt that fun I have always been a guy who never made fun of an injury because I always think it could happen to one of our guys. This is really wierd sh_t whats happening here with these injuries.again going to yeterdays game it had no feeling of the mets phillies rivalry it was like a spring training travel game.Yes a win is a win but at this time of the year you want to see how your team stacks up and the mets yesterday weren’t the mets I know.

Murphy might not be the most talented on this team, but he’s certainly been the healthiest. He’s the only one of the starting roster, many of the backups, some of the backups to the backups – (minus a handful of BP arms), not to have any problems so far this season. KRod hasn’t hit the DL but he was in the emergency room with back spasms so bad he couldn’t move. — Castillo also with his freak injury tripping down the dugout stairs. Remember the Swine Flu scare with Beltran and Maine earlier this year? That seems like a lifetime ago….

So what’s Murphy’s secret? Can they bottle it and start serving it up at ST next year?

Never, in my 40 + years as a fan, have I seen anything like this season. I’ve watched some pretty bad teams. Heck, those mid 70′s to early 80s team fielded a roster like we’re looking at right now only they WERE the starters…But never did we come close to the injury plagued season we have this year.

I hope someone finds that Philly jersey buried at Citi Field over the winter and does an exorcism…

  12. metsgirl31

Despite all the injuries this season, I’ve tried really hard to be positive about next year. But now with this news it’s just beating me down. I can’t believe how this season has turned out. And, depending on the outcome of the MRI/exam, it could impact our 2010 season too. I guess we shouldn’t have asked “what next” as they kept falling cuz we, unfortunately, got our answer. Still let’s hope for the best. We’re due for some good news I think.

I saw this tidbit in the latest Stark column a espn. Thought of TRS when I read it, since I know he was harping on Morales (I am pretty sure) for probably the last 2 years as a guy to get. The name certainly came up last off season when discussing the logic of picking up Delgado’s option and trading him (and the Angels were a logical dumping ground!)

“When the Angels said during the winter that they had no fear of running Kendry Morales out to first base if Mark Teixeira walked, a lot of people in baseball were skeptical. But not anymore. Three-quarters of the way through the season, Morales is hitting .303 with 26 homers, a .574 slugging percentage and a .925 OPS. There isn’t a single AL first baseman — including Teixeira — who can match him in all those categories”

  14. wannybackstra

Wallace Matthews’s latest contract is yet another example of what an ass he is. Wagner has a negotiated no-trade clause that he presumably was able to obtain due to his veteran status. Why is Wagner being painted into a villain for wanting to be able to control his own future pursuant to his contractual right?

I wish the Newsday would trade Wally to a newspaper in Nebraska.

  15. wannybackstra

“He has not been throwing between starts for quite awhile. I would say since before the All-Star break. He has been pitching with this problem, but not with the level of discomfort he has now,” New York manager Jerry Manuel said Monday after his team’s 6-2 loss to Philadelphia. “Now, it concerns him.”

Good thing the Mets nipped this in the bud. So he’s been hurt for over a month and now they’re worried????

    1. dirtysanchez

lol is that surprising considering the way this year has gone…

If anyone doesnt honestly believe we are screwed for 2010 and this FO and management is running the team into the ground, just sit by and put on that false optimistic face and tell yourself everything will be alright. Sure you’ll be lying to yourself, but we’ve all been guilty of it.

All the injuries and holes going into the offseason might have just become insurmountable. I don’t think 2010 will be as terrible as this year mainly because we will get injured players back, but you can’t honestly believe that this IDIOTIC regime supported by our craptacular owners can fix this mess in 1 year,so you can stop lying to yourselves now.

We have a mess on the field and in the FO. A GM whose cronies have worse MLB reputations than criminals have felonies, who sticks by leeches and parasites like Tony B, who calls out a reporter for “lobby(ing)” for a job. A GM who has made our players so uncomfortable that they find the need to hide injuries and have caused themselves and this franchise more damage in the long run. A GM who has made me scratch my head in disgust, disbelief, and awe. This is what we are left with.

Most know my style is over the top and most of the time I don’t even believe what I am writing. This is not one of those times. I wish it was.
