Well guys I guess on the bright side it can’t get any worse ( Quick hide K-ROD IN THE FALL OUT SHELTER !!! DAMN IT’S TOO LATE !!) What else can I say but to quote Alice Cooper – ” Welcome to My Nightmare“. Anyway here is the Late afternoon edition of ” This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty” So put on your seat belts keep your hands inside the cabin and drive 35 mph cuz its’s gonna be a bumpy ride !!
First off Birthday greetings to a memeber of Jeff Torborg’s coaching staff from the ’93 season Darrell Johnson (1928)
Also celebrating another year on this great grey Earth is the Mets original third string cather Clarence “Choo Choo” Coleman (1937) Ralph Kiner had a great story about “Choo Choo” . He was once a guest on Kiner’s Korner ( I miss it!) and Ralph found “Choo Choo” to be a hard interview so he figured he would ask him about his wife. So Ralph asks Choo Choo what his wife’s name is – Ralph was expecting to hear a name like Joy Or Mary , but “Choo Choo” only says ” Mrs. Coleman” – needless to say “Choo Choo” was never a guest on the program ever again !
Steroid cheat and son of Philthies great -Gary Matthews Jr. is 35 (1974)
One of our few bright lights this season Pedro ( quick get the bubble wrap!!) Feliciano is 33 (1976)
New York Mets signed free agent first baseman Brian Buchanan on August 25, 2004. He played a grand total of three games for the Mets in ’04 before fading into obscurity.
And just a question did Omar’s conference call seem extremely brief? and his answer on Johan Santana’s condition seemed inadequate ate best – slipshod at worst ! And I hope we get more than a bag of balls for Billy Wagner ( I’ll miss his blunt-fully correct observations) Because If the Boston Red Sox get 2 first round picks for him that become serviceable major league rs for him ‘ll scream !!
