    hahaha…well..so much for that

  2. whataputz

So explain to me the overall impact of this move? I assume we still get 2 players..just not Carter?

    1. Mr North Jersey

      good question

      1. rustyjr

just updated the column – we now get him after the seasons over – so much for a upfront evaluation of him !!

  3. Mr North Jersey

The question I then have is what does the Yankees get by all this?

    1. trs86

Nothing now. Red Sox pulled him back. Yankee’s just did it to the Sox and Mets to stick it to them.

      1. whataputz

I hope the Mets have a chance and do the same thing to the Yankees, that is just absolutely a scumbag move. Really classless from the supposed class of baseball.

      2. Mr North Jersey

so The Mets get Carter the Sox get Wagner and the Yankees basically wasted everyone’s time or just did not know the rules.

I mean them blocking us from watching Carter play the last 35 or so games can’t be that important to them can it?

        1. whataputz

What would make them think Boston would let them have him anyways! Never mind the trade. Why would boston give NY a young player? Just ridiculous.

          1. Mr North Jersey

I wanna see how talk radio covers this one tomorrow.

        2. trs86

Well from reading, it’s about the fact the Sox now have to carry him on the 40 man the rest of the season.

          1. Mr North Jersey

so what does that do I am just too slow tonight?

          2. whataputz

It means he has to be on their 40 man..which he would probably be anyway. If anything it probably helps the Sox.

          3. trs86

How does it help the Sox? It does nothing but take up a spot? Unless you think they were going to call him up?

          4. whataputz

It’s not like calling this guy up is destroying the team. Fine, he pinch his or rides the bench, it’s such a non factor.

          5. trs86

They would just not call him up. It just may keep them from calling up someone they planned on or having to DFA someone.

  4. whataputz

It’s a gentlemens agreement not to make those kind of moves that the Yankees just made. Just pure lack of class. All this does at the very worst is maybe inconveniences the sox, and thats only if you consider their new obligation to have carter on the 40 man an inconvenience. If you don’t think it bothers them to have him on the 40 man, then it helps the sox.

    1. trs86

How does it help them? Because they get to keep him longer?
But things like this happen all the time. Teams claiming players just to block.

      1. whataputz

Wow do you just argue with everything I say just because I say it. It’s supposed to be a gentlemens agreement to not block moves like this. Otherwise, these moves would never go down. Carter is not a 40 hr hitting catcher batting .300, he’s a guy trying to find himself in the minors and finally have success in the majors. There is no reason for the Yanks to block this trade, it barely impacts him. Wagner is still on the sox, so whats the point? Fine they need to keep Carter on the roster, so what? 40 men is alot of men, you can just bury him on the bench. It’s not like the sox are finished because they now only have 39 men they wanted on the roster as opposed to 40

        1. trs86

Because it sticks it to the Mets and Sox and forces the Sox to make an extra decision. Because in the past most likely the Sox have done it to the Yankees.

          1. Mr North Jersey

I know i am slow 2nite but I think the point is other than an inconvenience this does nothing to help the yanks towards winning a world series right? The 25man roster the RedSox have will ot change because of this right?

So the Yanks did a move to just piss the sox and mets off?

If so doesnt that really just embaress them more than anything else?

          2. Mr North Jersey

            not* change

          3. trs86

It could be someone, not likely, that they Red Sox want to add for the playoffs like Dice K or a reliever. But now maybe they have to DFA someone else to make room for that player on the 40 man. For example right now Dice K is on the 60 day and when he comes off they will need a spot on the 40 man for him. So no it will most likely have no impact. I am guessing this is a payback move for something we know nothing about.

          4. Mr North Jersey

yea but u keep saying 40 my thing is that the 25 man roster that will go into postseason if the sox make it will not be affected by this move will it?

          5. trs86

The only players they can chose from for that 25 man are the ones who are on their 40 man on Aug 31 baring injury.

          6. Mr North Jersey

exactly so the sox 40th guy on the totem pole goes bye bye thereby not doing anything to the valued players the sox need if and when they make it to postseason

          7. trs86

Yeah you are right about that, it’s just that maybe the Sox did not want to lose that 40th guy to protect a guy that is getting traded?

          8. trs86

Chances are the Yankee’s most likely claimed about every guy on the Redsox 40 man that was put on waivers thus locking up any roster moves of those guys.

          9. Mr North Jersey

yea but even if u r right the guy the sox let go to the yanks could be a player they are not worried that strongly about anyways and if the yankees do claim such player wont they have to then make room on their 40 for such player also thereby maybe hurting themsleves to spite the sox?

          10. trs86

Possible. So maybe they did not claim EVERY one, just most everyone.

          11. Mr North Jersey

so in the end the yanks still just wasted their time

          12. trs86

And SLIGHTLY inconvenienced the Sox and Mets.

          13. JoeR

they had to drop Penny for Wagner…yankee sticklers

          14. metsfan4decades

From what I’m reading, the Sox still have 2 spots open on their 40 man roster even after adding Wagner.

So….did the Yankees NOT do their homework on this or is it as Sports Center is alluding to and it’s payback to the Mets for trading Wagner to their rivals?

If yes to the latter, just another reason why no one has any use for the Steinbrenner Yankees other than their own fans.

          15. stickguy

It only means that the sox have to drop smoeone else off the 40 man (asusming, of course, that it was full) in order to make room for Wagner.

So, in a small minded yankee everything has to revolve around us way, they “hurt” the sox.

Of course, if they have an open spot, or a guy to move to the 60day DL, it really doesnt matter. nor does it if they have a piece of trash to drop off the 40 man. Plus, they have been cutting guys (like penny) recently anyway.

          16. trs86

Agreed, 99% chance it means nothing in the long run. But if you were the Yankees, why would you NOT claim him?

          17. JoeR

I believe it forced them to drop Penny for Wagner
