This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 08-27-09

This goes out as a reminder for all the remaining Mets Fans out there
Run to the Hills
Run for your life !
- Iron Maiden

Okay now that that’s out of the way it is time to take our daily dose of propofol that is ” This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty” !
First off Happy Birthday to one time long man / spot starter and coach for the Mets – Mike ” Brother of Greg” Maddux (1961)
Also celebrating a birthday is our everyday outfielder from ’96 & ’97 – Brian ” son of Hal” McRae (1967) – Have you ever noticed that aside from a Todd Hundley whenever we have a brother or son of a star player they turn out to be mediocre at best ?

Now here’s a bright spot in the annals of Mets infamy – today is the day our New York Mets signed free agent Jerry ” KOOZ!” Koosman in 1964.

and here is a equally infamous transaction that happened today in 1992 when our beloved – yet dysfunctional New York Mets traded David Cone to the Toronto Blue Jays for Jeff Kent and Ryan Thompson . As we all know Kent turned into a Hall Of Fame second baseman after he left us and Thompson was a fourth outfielder at best – it’s these kinds of deals that want you to kill your self quick and painlessly !

and lastly on this day in 2004 our New York Mets traded reliever Dan Wheeler to the Houston Astros for Adam ” Doctor” Seuss on August 27, 2004. – Long story short , Wheeler went on to make the World Series with the Tampa Bay Rays while Seuss played two games for St. Lucie before getting trapped into the 12th dimension.
All I can say is to quote Joe Benigo- ” Oh The Pain !!!

“just for Mets players on the DL would be higher than the total budgets of 17 other teams”

Next spring training I’d love to see scrimmage games of the ’09 Scrubs vs the ’09 Injured

The Mets are only 12 games ahead of the “worst-in-the-mlb” Nationals. I hope they keep losing and get Bryce Harper in the draft. Is that being a bad fan?

Has anyone seen, anywhere, any mention of where the 2009 Metsies stand in terms of games lost to injuries, in recent years or all-time?

Elias must be able to summon something like this from their database….I mean, we must, at this point and by the end of the year, be among the all-time champs in games lost to injuries.

Take a look at 1987—it was bad, but nothing at all like this.

I mean, we have Pelf and Slappy and Murph and Schneider and KRod and a couple bench and bullpen guys left…that is it….

Cash wise I am sure we are #1. As for pure numbers we were tied with the Reds this season for number of dl trips but I think Perez put us over. At least he is helping us win something.

What does ‘games lost to injuries’ mean?

Do you mean total number of days on the DL for Mets players?

I think he is maybe implying a formual showing games we would have won without injury.
