Good Afternoon my fellow Mets fans. Im sorry that I couldn’t write my usual column yesterday, because I had a medical emergeny with my dog ( she’s okay now) So without further ado here is ” This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty”
First off Happy Birthday to the former farmhand who helped us land Tim Teufel in ’86 – Bill Latham (1960)
Also celebrating his forty-ninth today is former outfield prospect ( that never lived up to the hype) Rusty Tilman (1960)
Sadly on this date in 2001 , Dick Selma passed away. Dick Selma was a veteran of those god awful teams mid ’60′s and was traded away after the ’68 season. He pitched until 1974.
And in my own opinion here on whether Fred Wilpon should sell the team – I say no because as the old saying goes – ” it’s better to know the devil you know rather the devil you don’t” – because with our luck he would see the team to The Dolans and Cablevision !!!

Have to wonder if the Cubs will consider trading Lee this offseason? He only has 1 year at 13M left.
Also not really having to do with the above but the Cubs could really use Castillo. They need a 2B and a leadoff. Castillo only has 2/12 on his contract. Would the Mets consider moving Castillo and signing Hudson? IF the Mets plan on getting a guy like Figgins for LF then Hudson would fit much better than Castillo.
Reyes, Figgins, Wright, Beltran, Pena, Hudson, Frenchy, Santos?

They will trade Lee. MHO of course, but it seems like they are going to be desperate to shed salary.
You can probably have Bradley too for nothing. Heck, take bradley and they will probably throw in Lee.

True about Bradley, I am just not sure he would be cut out for NY being that he does not like the boos in Chicago. He might cry here. But you could think about a Perez for Bradley trade if you thought he could. Money is about the same. Cubs have a lot of bad contracts just like the Mets. Interesting thing is nobody talks about their age but the Mets are old? To me the Cubs are too old and it has caught up with them this year. They are much closer to needing rebuilding than we are.

I think you are wrong about the contracts. The Cubs have a bunch of bad (albatross) contracts. The Mets dont really. Just 2 year deals to Castillo (and 6 mill is not that much, he even has been worth it this year) and of course Ollie. And they could still move him, not that they will (eating $$ of course).

What about Castillo for Bradley, should we even consider it? I am sure the Cubs would. Bradley and Hudson could remake the lineup.
Reyes, Hudson, Beltran, Bradley, Wright, Frenchy, Murphy, Santos?

I don’t want any part of Bradley. Not just the wackadoodle head, but he doesn’t hit enough to make up for the atrocious D, or not being able to stay on the field.
I have to think they could get just as good production from a “no nmae” for much lower cost. heck, a Murton (what ever happened with him?) and Carter platoon could produce better numbers, for 1/10th the cost.
Besides, off this year, they might be able to make a real deal for luis. Especialy if they ate say 4 of the remaining 12. A 2 year/8 ill deal for a starting 2B isn’t that out of line.
and this, coming from the most anti-luis guy on the blog!
Oh, I still want him gone. His big year this year just makes me happy since it adds a chance they can move him (but knowing Omar, it makes him untouchable, ala Delgado last off season).

Could be much worse Rusty. Could be Bob Johnson, owner of BET and the Charlotte Bobcats. I has been reported that he was actually seen once at one of the Bobcats games. No one can prove it.
