You should be ashaned!
Following in David Wright’s footsteps, Shane Victorino battle-tested the new MLB helmet design in last night’s Phillies victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Wright wore the helmet in two games earlier this week, to the mockery of his fellow teammates, opposing players, general fans of baseball, and the New York media. Though Wright switched back to his usual helmet in yesterday’s win in Colorado, Victorino would not be outdone.
Some of the insults that flew David’s way had to be carbon-copied as well. Wright found a picture of the Great Gazoo on his locker Wednesday, and yesterday Shane was quoted as saying “It’s not the first time I’ve been called Gazoo” following a ribbing from his own teammates.
Alright, so I’m making something out of nothing better than ESPN does it, but the oversized helmet jokes were OURS. How dare the Phillies steal that from us! Shame, shame on them.
And yes, I punned up some Counting Crows lyrics…

I would have loved to see a front picture of what he looked like in this helmet.
David looked like a little kid with a little head. But hey, I’m all for it if it avoids injuries or worse.

He looked like a little 5 year old wearing daddy’s firefighter hat. It looked… goofy, much like David Wright did…
They have to make them smaller. Shane used it twice and went back to his normal helmet…
