This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 09-09-09

First off let me start by saying : WELCOME HOME CARLOS BELTRAN !! – WEVE MISSED YOU!! Okay with that being said the Mole Man looked good last night, stroked a double, almost hit a grand salami, But the thing that I found most encouraging is the fact that Beltran showed no fear when making a diving catch last night. He might not be 100% but even at the 85 % he is at now can at the very least help us avoid a total collapse into the N.L East cellar. Note to Tim Redding – YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO GIVE UP TWO RUN HOMERS TO CAMERON MAYBIN !!! Okay with that being said it’s time for the infamy .
First off Happy birthday to one time St. Louis Cardinals catcher who inexplicably became our first baseman after we didn’t go the extra mile in resigning John Olerud – Todd Zeile (1965) Todd was serviceable at first base and he was a decent hitter – he even got us to our first World Series since ’86. But I just feel he wasn’t the right fit for the team.( my opinion)
Also celebrating another year on earth is the man who spends so much time on the disabled list that he bought a time share there, the man who prefer ed to send his kids to the Colorado school system – Mike ” Ouch” Hampton (1972) To be fair I blame Steve Phillips for not being aggressive enough in resigning him. Hampton and his agent wanted to negotiate a contract before the season started and Phillips threw a low ball number at them, they decided to wait until after the post season to restart the contract negotiations and when Steve Phillips submitted the same contract to Team Hampton, they got insulted and signed elsewhere.
Token sucky Japanese pitcher Kaz Ishii is 36 (1973) .
Sadly on this date in ’97 , Original Met slugger , Richie Ashburn passed away.
New York Mets purchased outfielder Jim Gosger from the Pittsburgh Pirates on September 9, 1969. He want on to play in parts of five seasons with the Mets until his release in ’74

New York Mets released outfielder Darren Reed on September 9, 1993.
And to add my two cents on which songs aptly describe the 2009 Mets campaign I will throw 5 songs at you
Breakdown – by Tom Petty and the Heart breakers
Black Veils of Melancholy – Status Quo
Five Year Plan – D.R.I
Out In The Cold – Judas Priest
Bad Moon Rising – C.C.R
Fooling Yourself ( Angry Young Man) – Styx
( Honorable mention – Death On Two Legs – Queen)
The two last songs are dedicated to the Mets front office
