    Everybody hurts by Green day.

Found this in a lyrics interpretation site:

Basically it’s about people go through many struggles and obstacles in life but you can go through it because many other people (friends, family) go through it as well. We all are human. Life is not perfect

Atleast we’re 2 days from NFL kickoff!
Couldn’t come fast enough this season!

    1. CaseStreet

yeah, but all I’ll be thinking about is the Winter Meetings and Spring Training

      1. stickguy

gonna be a fun off season.

even before the train derailed, this was set up to be a huge off season for the mets (especially since Omar didn’t address any of the looming proactively last off season.

        1. metsfan4decades

I can’t wait for this ‘Hot Stove’. I’ve been waiting since June….

      2. fongy2

Problem is Omar is still making the decisions!

        1. darknova306

Exactly. Plus, we have too many holes to fill in one offseason as it is.

          1. stickguy

All depends on whether you want them to get a mix of solid supporting guys + 1 or 2 higher end models.

No, they aren’t going to add 5 superstars in 1 year, but they don’t have too many holes to fill adequately this off season.

As long, of course, as you accept at least 1 Murphy type as filling a hole!

          2. darknova306

You’re assuming everyone comes back fully healthy and productive and that Omar actually gets ‘solid supporting guys’ for once instead of just stars and reclamation projects. I have no such faith.

I also don’t share the opinion that everyone else has about our rotation for next year being just one guy away. After Santana, there’s no one I trust to be better than a 4 on any sort of consistent basis. I also think we need to get rid of Green, get another LHRP to help Feliciano not get way overused, and get a solid 8th inning guy.

I don’t see Murphy as an everyday guy like lots of others do. He’s a bench guy to me. *insert long string of flames against me* If we do keep him at 1B, I wouldn’t be satisfied unless we got a BIG bat for LF, a catcher that isn’t a joke, and Wright’s power returns or he accepts Citi for what it is and goes doubles happy.

I’m also probably the only one out there that is convinced that Francoeur’s hot streak will end once the next season starts and the change of scenery jolt is over.

If Omar manages to fill our needs and field a decent team, I’ll give him his due, but I don’t see it happening.

          3. CaseStreet

looks like you want to make the PERFECT team. It ain’t happening, unless you’re Cashman and can buy up all the FA’s.

Who else could sign C.C., A.J. and Tex in one year and still cut salary?

          4. GravediggerHebner

Regarding the rotation, a rotation of 1,2,4,4,4 is the same as a rotation of 1,2,3,4,5, so as long as the Mets do get a legit # 2 I don’t see a problem with the way you describe the rest of them.

As far as the bullpen, I agree with the “add a 2nd LH to complement Feliciano” 100% and I wonder if that guy is Bostick.

Regarding Green, I can take him or leave him, I am guessing they’ll keep him as a cheap guy to pitch the 6th (or earlier as necessity warrants).

Regarding Murphy, you are free to consider him a “bench guy” I will not flame you for it. I believe he CAN be a starting 1B in the Major Leagues, but he isn’t yet and whether the team can afford to keep him there I agree depends on whether they sign a viable bopper for LF.

Another blog did a big long fact filled story about Murphy and how of the 22 qualifying ML 1B, he was the “worst/least productive with the bat” of the 22. What the article failed to mention was that, of those 22 qualifiers, he was also the one with the LEAST major league experience, with 400 fewer at bats than the next least experienced guy.

I agree that Francoeur’s play is more likely to return to the level of the previous 2 years than it is to stay at it’s current level. But it’s also reasonably possible that it will find a happy medium, and if it does he’ll be a decent enough 6th/7th hitter.

All the evidence supports your lack of faith in Omar to do the job so I can’t argue with that point at all, but I also can’t fire him so all I can realistically do is hope the tenuous position he is in forces him to take a different approach. I still feel it’s likely he will be dismissed after the season with the Rubin meltdown figuring large in the decision.

The Dolphins have a brutal schedule, and might be a year away, but watch them…the defense is going to be excellent and Ricky Williams has finally put his bongs in storage for the future.

And how bout that revamped Nets roster! Without Vince and with the improved defense we are sure to see, we could be the surprise of 2009–2010.

      1. fongy2

Brock my friend, your Dolphins will be taking a step back this season before
moving foward. They won’t be sneaking up on anyone AND the schedule is ALOT
        tougher.

        1. Kingman 26

Agreed on every word I am afraid my friend.

In 2007 they lost SO many games by a field goal and truly were the best 1–15 team in sports history. Last year they won a lot of very close games.

8-8 or 9-7 this year, and Super Bowl Contenders in 2010.

  8. metsfan4decades

    Great post.
As a Met fan for over 40 years, I can say this has been one of the most brutal, if not THE most brutal season in memory.
    Here’s to next year.

I’ll have to think about this, see if I can add to the list. Although most of the ones on here are most apropos….

  9. gipperpdx

Everybody Hurts, Green Day. No question about it…..sad-ass song is appropriate, the everybody hurts title lyric can’t get more apropos!

    1. CaseStreet

      can’t find it, only REM

      1. stickguy

Sorry. I always get them mixed up for some reason. I meant to put green day.

        1. CaseStreet

          lol

          1. gipperpdx

Geez…I thought it was REM…but Stickguy made me question my admittedly limited music knowledge, so I went with him. Always trust your first instinct! :-)

          2. stickguy

            OK, let’s try this again.

            REM REM REM

          3. CaseStreet

            so where’d the song go?

  10. CaseStreet

I’ll go with stickguy and choose Everybody Hurts, R.E.M.
