Lets be honest…This team was “eliminated” at 9-12 going into May!
Poorly constructed, poorly managed and then the injuries….

    1. Mr North Jersey

Your exactly right but for all those Die Hards that are still waiting for the cavalry I figured a lil alcohol never hurts. :-)

      1. fongy2

Never hurts for those NOT waiting either :)

    2. stickguy

I think that is a little excessive. THey did go what, 19-9 in May? So 1/3 into the season they were 28-21, a .571 WP, good for 92+ wins over a season.

Even when they got slaughtered with injuries in June, they were still kind of sorta afloat.

I will give you the poorly managed, but without the injuries (or at least a normal amount and duration of them), the construction would have been OK to keep them in the hunt.

      1. trs86

Great point Stick. To the pesimist May was a fluke and to the optimist May was the real Mets. In between the rational fan believes we were an 88-90 win team.

  2. metsfan4decades

    I’ll drink to that.

Bobby O all over Murphy and this team for the mental mistakes on the base paths and in the field. Said they’d better be drilling all of them on the fine art of running the base paths. He is really hot over this. Hey, join the club.

Also said there is no way you bring back Redding next year.

    1. fongy2

Bobby O just picking that up now??
And Jerry AND staff return next season??
not to mention the Minor League Mgrs and Coaches??
      Jeez……………….

      1. metsfan4decades

No, actually Bobby O has been pretty vocal all season. But he was really not tonight.

And yeah….I’m in the camp where I believe Omar and Jerry will be gone come mid Oct. If they’re not fired by then though, we’re going to at least start the season with them.

        1. metsfan4decades

          ‘hot tonight’.

          1. fongy2

Fred’s only words on the subject of this mess were,Omar AND Jerry
will be back for 2010.So,unless I missed something(which I might
have),not sure were the optimisim for them being axed comes from.
Little chance ‘OL Freddy eats their contracts.

          2. stickguy

well, they could always be back in another capacity. Move Omar into another role (is he good at anything?), and make Jerry the court jester. Or something where he is better suited than being on the bench!

I know, just make him Omar’s assistant, and let him run the pressers.

            Promote Tim Teufel.

          3. fongy2

I’m so desperate to see these two go, I’d
            be positive toward anyone!

  3. metsfan4decades

Not that it matters but with Tatis taken out with an injury, AHern getting kicked in the face, and Luis getting drilled on the elbow, I figure we’re gonna see an add in the papers tomorrow for replacements…..

  4. stickguy

what exactly did Murphy do? I was out walking the dog before I had something on the rug to clean up!

But, unlike DW and Beltran, He at least was able to do something against pedro in the 8th. GUes sthe glass half full theory is you have to be on base to make a base running blunder!

    1. metsfan4decades

Murph was on second with 2 out and Pedro threw a pitch in the dirt that got by the catcher. Murphy took off for third. He was out by a country mile. Inning over.

I agree though – at least he got on base.

  5. Mr North Jersey

Isn’t there a candy bar called “OH Murphy”?

LoL I think there is one I wonder if I can find the wrapper LoL

    1. Mr North Jersey

scratch that it’s OH Henry but with a lil Photoshop I can get it to be a “Oh Murphy” Bar lol

      1. fongy2

I wouldn’t be too hard on Broadway Danny, he’s gonna be our FirstBasemen
        next season!

  6. Mr North Jersey

Great we get bonus coverage on Pedro’s performance with his post-game press conference.

I luv Pedro but I think I can catch the highlights of his post-game tomorrow.

    1. metsfan4decades

I’m listening….Pedro actually giving a lot of love for the NY Mets.
I’d have to say, from everything I’ve read and Pedro’s comments over the past few months – he really would have rather been wearing blue and orange this year, not Philly red mid way through…

      1. Mr North Jersey

Pedro has always shown Mets respect but on a night when he eliminatesus officially by going 8 shutout innings I think i will take a pass on covering his press conf that same night.

  7. steveo

I hate pedro I hope he just starts sucking again so we don’t have to hear his stupid sounding lisp

    1. stickguy

more surprising is they let him throw 119 pitches last game, and 130 this game. Way to take care of the old guy still trying to get back into form!

although if they aren’t planning to put him on the ost season roster (he would have to start, not pen, right?) what do they care!

  8. steveo

And on another note philly is toast for the playoffs they can’t score for sh-t perfect time to go into an offensive slump good luck philthy fans ur done

    1. fongy2

Relax!, take a breath and calm down. It’s finally over.

  9. fongy2

I was surprised Friday night when Murphy wasn’t in the lineup against Hammels.
At this point in the season why wouldn’t he be?
Hes gonna be our 1B next season so let him face the tough Lefties instead of getting
ABs to a nice back up like Tatis who may well not even be here next season.

    1. Mr North Jersey

you mean adrian gonzalez or prince fielder won’t b comin to ny?

      1. fongy2

        It would be nice!…But ehh,…no I don’t think so.

        1. Mr North Jersey

that was gonna be the topic of our 1st hot stove. :(

          1. fongy2

I’m in! But I wouldn’t be too fast to spend Freddy’s money!
Madoff already took care of that!

          2. Mr North Jersey

            lol

  10. steveo

This team is so pithetic we can’t even play spoiler correctley

  11. CaseStreet

Who would’ve imagined the score would’ve been 1-0 on a night that Pedro and Redding were pitching. Only 3 hits for the Phils.
    Frenchy, take a pitch.

    1. fongy2

Agreed!…Another reason NOT to chase Molina!
Don’t want a lineup of free swingers!

  12. Mr North Jersey

if not 4 wright we would of been swept.

  13. steveo

Another guy – wouldn’t mind bidding farwell bye frenchy you were better than cchurch slightly but still not good enough for a winning team

    1. stickguy

I was on his side for a while, but he is still cruising along with a pitiful .715 OPS.

maybe if they have no better options (and no money), since he is only a year to year guy, they can give it a shot.

He does play a good RF, and seems to stay healthy (a big plus for this team). As long as he is hitting in the 7 hole and only expected to bang in some of the stray base runners (and add a little pop) they can probably live with his lack of OBP.

      1. steveo

This guy needs to be gone stick 12 hrsd thusd far for a right fielder a power spot won’t do it we have had a real right fielder or for that matter a left feider for years

        1. fongy2

Problem is neither Sullivan or Reed provides a whole lotta pop either.

They do work cheaper though!…Hey wait!, Freddy and/or Omar may be
          monitoring…..Forget I said that!

        2. stickguy

12 this year is a huge number! And is the 7 hole a real HR spot?

Really depends on teh pice too.

the big problem is, if they cut him loose (non-tender), who replace him? I guess you can go with Pagan. Should be cheaper, and more productive. If you don’t mind the daily adventure!

If not pagan, reed/sullivan are slap hitters. You want immobile Vlad? A real young guy like F mart or Neuiinhuis?

His replacement hs to come from somewhere, and there ain’t likely to be money in the budget for a big $ guy.

          1. fongy2

They can’t just cut Frenchy and Maine loose!
Can they? Young, already proven past performers
            AND atleast real MLB players.

          2. stickguy

I dont think it makes sense. But some posters here do.

they wont be that expensive via arb (certainly not maine), so keep them, and if needed, they can be moved.

better than paying 2.5mill for the next redding or tatis.

          3. fongy2

Totally agree! And better than signing a bunch
            of Sullivan/Mackowiak/Dessens types
And/or hoping against hope that FMart will
suddenly stay healthy and become the immediate
star he hasn’t been in the minors.

  14. Mr North Jersey

31 posts in under 40 minutes on a late sunday nite when we all knew we hav long been eliminated.

What does it mean? It means we care we really care. :-)

    1. fongy2

No doubt! AND two tough losses in the same day to the illies including the
one which finally put this season to bed…spun by Pedro, no less!

    2. stickguy

NO, I am just trying to get my post count up before the end of the year, so I look better in the arbitration hearing.

      1. Mr North Jersey

lol well u hav a long ways 2 go if u want the big money trs is getting.

        1. fongy2

You guys on the Freddy budget too??….

          Damn you!…Bernie Madoff!

      2. fongy2

Nice one. Sounds like the mindset of too many of OUR players.

  15. steveo

    Sad but true

  16. Mr North Jersey

MIDNIGHT guys so does Citi Fields turns into a pumpkin now that we have been eliminated?

    1. fongy2

      More like a White Elephant!

  17. steveo

What a way to open a ballpark with a horrible season like this. This only can happen to the mets

    1. fongy2

Agreed!,,,This while the New Yankee Stadium will likely host World Series Games.

      Oh, the pain!

  18. stickguy

    Couple random thoughts before bed:

    - My hope for the rest of the year is no more mets hurt (at lest ones I care about!), and that the yanks and PHils both get bounced in the 1st round.

    - Right now (with tatis starting), they are only really missing Reyes and Delgado from the original lineup (treating frenchy and Church as a wash), since Murphy and tatis were both “starters”

so, since Dlegado was likely to walk anyway, they are effectivley getting a look at next years team, and the nature of the club.

given that, does the complete lack of fundis and managerial ability have to get more attention now? There really arent enough injuries at this point to hide behind (yes, it can explain some of the lack of offense, but not the abysmal quality of play).

Can the next 3 weeks be enough to get Omar and jerry bounced? Or hell, at least Jerry?

Frankly, they can dump Omar now, demote him, or make him disappear next year, and it doesnt matter. The coaching staff and manager are much more important, and riskier to blow up during the season.

    1. darknova306

The poor fundamentals have been with this team since day 1 of this season, and stuck with us all the way through. They should have been getting a lot more attention, but no one would talk about anything but the injuries.

  19. fongy2

Agree but I’ll take Freddy at his word and will con’t to believe Omar and Jerry
will(sadly) be back. But heres hoping! Anyway, have a good night!
