Very nice. Thanks.
Where did this come from? I’d like to save a copy, but the ‘click here’ link in this post isn’t working. I’m getting 404 Error Not Found.

Sign this guy up.
I also respectfully disagree with the original author.
This whole “rudderless organization†and speaking to needing a plan or road map is very similar to when people talk about teams and players having “swaggerâ€.
This is a chicken and egg scenario, where people are convinced that swagger drives success. The truth is that success creates the illusion of swagger.
Take a look at Daniel Murphy for a perfect example. When he first came up, he had immediate success. This was perceived as “swaggerâ€, “confidence†and “gritâ€. Journalists ran stories about how he said “Hi, I’m Daniel Murphy, and I bat 3rd†when he was in college and it was suddenly common knowledge that Daniel Murphy was an ice cold hitting machine with swagger.
Fast forward to 2010 … Daniel Murphy, despite the same facial expressions, demeanor and approach is hitting .250. Suddenly the same media is claiming the guy is scared, lost, over-matched and confused. Of course neither of these scenarios really existed. For the most part, Murphy was pretty much the same, but people regularly confuse success with certain characteristics that go with it. The same for failure.
You see this same thing in assessment of coaches, managers and even organizations. If a team is hitting well, a coach is crowned a guru. If they slump, he’s suddenly clueless. The same goes for winning or losing managers. Torre was a dunce with the Cardinals, and suddenly a Zen Master with the Yankees (and a massive payroll).
The Mets surely have a plan, and they surely have a road map. You can have a 5K GPS system in your car, but if 3 of your tires blow out at the same time, the GPS isn’t going to help you get to your destination.
What was once perceived as being visionary management is now being perceived as rudderless … simply because our entire starting lineup got injured all at once. I’m not buying the rudderless argument – it’s too convenient and far too based on the last 50 games than any actual evidence.
I have been around a while and I think I remember his comments always being rational. Anyone know how to show him the light that is TRDMB.

Another interesting tidbit. This is the first game that offically had no meaning for the Mets since 2005.

Am I rationalizing cuz I think that’s pretty good. There are not a lot of teams that can say that. Still its not where I thought we’d be on 9/15/09.

As far as I know, NO other team can say that. Unless I am forgeting something?

Well I guess then that puts things in some perspective.

gotta take advantage and watch some games.
As bad as it is now, there’s nothing worse (for a baseball fan) that not being able to see ANY baseball.

Misch is NOT a starter.

Man, the Mets pitching staff compared to the Braves is depressing. We really need 2 accomplished starters. Even bringing in Zambrano or Lackey alone may not be enough. We need to bring in one of them and find a young guy that can develop. Shame we could not have gotten a guy like Garza.

Trs, if the Cubs traded Zambrano for the package you mentioned earlier
even Cub fans might give up. Castill,Green,Reed&Gee????
What?? Ya don’t wanna part with Wilson Valdez??
Their GM would be fired at once!!
If they put Z on the market, teams would be falling all over offering
top prospects for him.
Were you kidding??

Well, Hendry does make Omar look like a rocket scientist, so there is a chance!
And don’t be so sure that teams will be lining up to throw top prospects at him. There are some performance issues, he is a lunatic, and is owed something like 53mill over the next 3 years.
So unless the cubs are eating a ton of salary, dont expect that much back.
Of course, this is a situation where the yankeees always used there big market $$ muscle. Take the contract, and give them crap back.

I thought Omar WAS a rocket scientist?
And what? The Cubs are broke?
I thought they were being sold?
My friend…we ain’t gettin’ Zambrano.

Fongy we might have to include 1 prospect but do you realize how much Zambrano is owed and his current injury history? 3 years 54M. Now who in the hell is going to be giving top prospects for that?

id rather make a play for oswalt or webb – i think we will settle ( and be pleasently surprised )by joel pinero

If we can get Pinero to leave St. Louis it will be the coup of the offseason.

Webb is doable if they let him walk. Problem is what Webb will you get? Oswalt, I am not sure they will EVER trade him no matter how badly they need to. Honestly they need to trade Lee, Oswalt, Berkman and should have traded Valverde.

didn’t realize Zambrano’s contract was for $18M. No thanks.
