Jerry the DA does it again.

Well it seems that Jerry the Heartbreaker is at it again.  This time he is out to crush any confidence that Parnell had left and has now kicked his butt back to the pen with the following to say according to Newsday:

“He probably wasn’t advancing at the level that we would want him to be at,” Manuel said, later suggesting that the Mets could no longer feel “confident” with Parnell on the mound.”

Parnell may have needed to be sent back to the pen but can you not just keep your damn mouth shut and say “Parnell has been moved back to the BP.”?  Jerry continues to toy with our younger players.  Normally I think a manager’s effect is overrated but right now Jerry’s might be underrated.  Unfortunately his effect is ALL negative.  Get this guy away from our young players now!

      LOL!!!

Jerry has to go. Can he really be this dumb?

I have a new theory. He thinks the team will not win next year, and doesn’t want to get blamed. So, he is trying to get himself fired so he can stay home, collect his salary, and look for another gig, hiding behind the injury facade.

he probably knows that if he gets a healthy, talanted team next year and it underperfms, peole will finally figure out what a moron he really is.

found a totally apropos posting by Greg over at fear and fear in Flushing. a clip:

“Those who cut the Mets miles and miles of slack for sucking as badly as they do point to the injuries. How could have we expected them to contend without their key players? I’ll buy that. I’ll buy that substituting for All-Stars and even regulars wasn’t going to be easy. I’ll buy that if you told me ahead of time that we’d endure most of 2009 missing mass quantities of Reyes, Delgado, Beltran, Maine, Perez and Putz (plus assorted other dollops of the disabled) I’d have no right nor reason to expect this team to be in the middle of a pennant race in mid-September.

But I’d also have no right nor reason to expect what we’ve gotten. We’ve gotten dumbass baseball from the moment the season started right down to its final weeks. We’ve gotten amateur baseball from professionals. We’ve gotten neophyte mistakes from those who have been playing the game continually since childhood.

It’s not that we don’t have good players. We don’t, for the most part, but it’s not that. It’s that we’re getting bad baseball. Dumbass baseball.

We’ve seen it emanate from just about every source imaginable since April, but from no one as repeatedly or as regularly as from Daniel Murphy. Since it’s a teamwide epidemic, I’m assuming we’ve seen more bad baseball out of Murphy in ’09 because he’s had the dratted luck to remain healthy this entire season. He’s played in ten more games than David Wright, twelve more than Luis Castillo. It only figures that by exposing himself more, he would be more exposed than any Met.

All Mets play bad baseball. Daniel Murphy plays it the most. “

I’ll tell you what though….I’d much rather keep Murphy and get rid of Jerry.

Here’s a kid that didn’t have the usual time to develop in the minors, brought up earlier than normal last year, touted as our starting season LF this year with very little preperation (and none of it in the minors). Then…after stinking it up there for about 6 weeks, they have an opportunity to save face and stick him at first when Delgado went down – yet another position he’s had very little experience at.

He’s been a credible replacement at first. Has he made some bonehead decisions and plays? Yup, no doubt about it. But I’ll give him credit for shoveling you-know-what against the tide, unprepared for what the team asked of him this year. With his work ethic, I’m sure he’s tried as best he could to do whatever it is they’ve asked him to do.

Maybe if they’d stop messing around with this kid, switching positions, platooning, whatever, we’d get a chance to see just what he might be capable of. I don’t think he’s ever gonna be a star, but you don’t need all stars on the roster to win.

I would rather get Moises (hell, Bonilla) back than see Jerry again next year.

    it’s not just Jerry.

Where in the baseball world does it make sense to evaluate a player’s future role based on such a small sample.

It’s like saying, Daniel Murphy had a good couple of months in the OF so he’s going to be the everyday outfielder next year. Oh, wait…

    1. Kingman 26

      Haha!

Joey Cora…let’s get an ex-Mariner in the manager’s office in Queens!!

      Or Tim Teufel.

As Stick I think said earlier, let’s find the next Scioscia/Gardenhire.

      1. CaseStreet

        I vote for Jose Valentin!

        1. Kingman 26

Oooh, that is a damn good name to throw into the suggestion ring!

          Seriously….

i got dibs on orel hershiser – my opinion piece gets published tomorrow

Well, I guess Jerry is shwoing his baseball acumen by not allowing Parnell to pitch in any of these absolutely crucial remaining games.

After all, we surely need to see more of the very mediocre Tim Redding, the 35-year- old craptastic Nelson Figueroa, who will surely be a number 1 or 2 somewhere next year, and maybe even Pat Misch of the one career win.

No, don’t waste any of these huge games on a 24 year old who can throw in the upper 90s.

Maybe Omar trades him away for nothing and we can add him to the Bell/Lindstrom list of live arms given away for less than zero.

Has Jerry taught anyone anything? Has he gotten the most out of even one player? Has he visibly improved anyone? Has he stressed fundamentals now that all is long lost?

I used to feel fairly sure that he was a poor manager; now it is plain for all to see. He must be stopped before spring training opens.

the answer to all your questions, in case you were wondering, is NO

Dan Warthen needs to go too.

oh kingman Henry Gibson died – i love the classic blues brother line ” IVE ALWAYS LOVED YOU!” – TO FLIGHT OF THE VALKYRES

    1. Kingman 26

      Damn, did not hear that!

Yeah, he and his crew were classic in that movie….f***ing Illinois Nazis.

      “I’ve always loved you.” LOL!!!!

      1. stickguy

        I hate Illinois Nazis!

It might not be the best move for his confidence and yadda yadda, but I think Parnell’s career is in relief pitching. he’s got that blazing fastball and if he can work on another pitch he’s got 8th inning and maybe someday 9th inning stuff. I think as a starter he’s mediocre at best, but he’s proven at times this season out of the pen that he can be very valuable. Sure Jerry might not have made the greatest move, but Parnell was stinking up the joint.

    1. trs86

It’s not the move, it’s the way it was done, when it was done and what was said when it was done.

  9. stickguy

Will he be calling out Figgy tomorrow too?

I think the players should get together, and pull in one of th ebeat writers (hmmm, Rubin?) and totally unload on Jerry. Call him out for all the dumb things he did, and mistakes he made.

Hey, if it works for Jerry, he can’t complain when he gets it right back!

    1. trs86

You know Stick that is a great point. I had not thought about that angle. If Jerry is never true to his word and constantly belittles the players in public for “motivation” perhaps the players should do the same to motivate him…. to leave.

Looks like Murph man must have knon we were disecting him today!

    1. metsfan4decades

See? That’s what I was talking about above. Murph is certainly no whiner and didn’t go out there today with his tail between his legs. 3 for 4, a HR, double, some good fielding.
      Good for him..

Jerry saying on the post game show ‘we competed, just fell short’. Uh, Okay, dokey…

I think I’m the only left watching these games – LOL. Can’t help myself. It’s always such a long winter w/o baseball….

      1. trs86

Pretty much, I will tune in for some playoff games. That’s about it. Wish they aired the Arizona Fall League so I could see Davis and Mejia play.

      2. prismo

I haven’t watched a full game in weeks. I’ve watched a few innings here and there, but once the team falls behind, there’s really no point.

  11. metsfan4decades

Bobby O, when asked by Carlin, if Jerry could be considered ‘on the line right now’, especially with this last road trip. Bobby O. said if they continue looking this lack luster for the last set of games, then yeah, could change the whole mindset towards things. Woo-Hoo.

And he said he knows one thing: Jerry talks about keeping guys ‘fresh’. Bobby said well, Castillo looks totally exhausted so let’s start with him.
He’s got nothing left to prove. Louie did more than anyone expected this season. Showed up in shape with something to prove, stayed healthy (absolutely amazing) and is currently about 8th in the league in BA with a good on base %.
He gets 100% for the effort this season.

    1. trs86

Unless they are playing him for a trade in the offseason, you are right. There has to be a guy to play 2B. Why not let Murphy try it there and Evans at 1B? Does it matter?

  12. gipperpdx

    The Tinkerer must go.
