This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 09-19-09

Well I guess after another listless showing last night the Mets are looking for a way to commemorate the 40th anniversaryof the ’69 World Series by winning 69 games !!! This squad that I have now affectionately refer to as ” Jerry’s Kids” ( please send donations to me at …) have 63 wins on the year with just under twenty games to play – I think six more wins can be attained but who knows ( they might just get sixty eight or seventy wins just to screw with our heads !!)
Anyway on to the infamy !
Celebrating a birthday today was the voice of the Mets for forty two seasons – Mr. Happy Recap himself – Bob Murphy (1924) . I always looked forward to listening to him – especially during spring training games on WHN because knew that soon the baseball season would be upon us once again. He is a Mets Icon – More than Ralph Kiner or Lindsey Nelson… When you plays from old game clips – you hear Murph’s thunderously genteel voice . and I miss him dearly.
Also celebrating a birthday is Brooklyn Dodgers legend Duke ” Da Dook of Flatbush” Snider (1926) Even though Duke only played one season with the Mets ( 1963) He was still a formidable bat in that line up of has beens and never wases.
Larry Miller (1937) – Not the comic but the pitcher – turns 72 today.
and one time rookie reliever phenom – Randy Myers turns 47 (1962) Randy was the main piece that we shipped to he Cincinnati Reds for Brooklyn’s own John Franco. If my memory is not betraying me – I believe Myers was traded because he like Roger McDowellhad problems with rookie sensation Gregg Jefferies. After leaving the Mets Myers became one of the premiere closers in baseball.
And lastly I know we want to get a good pick selection in the upcoming Rookie draft , and I know the season is all but over – but… CAN WE PLEASE ROOT FOR THIS TEAM TO WIN!!! WE ARE METS FANS NOT PIRATE FANS !!! LETS HAVE SOME F#@king dignity !!

lol, rusty. I don’t think anyone wants the team to lose, but wouldn’t mind if they played .500 ball to get one of the high picks.

    Schitzo redding shows up again.

man, how can one guy have such dramatic splits? He either looks like Tom Seaver, or someone that coulen’t make the ’62 Mets as a mop up man!

Too bad this means Omar signs him to a 3/12 deal after the game…

Redding just ran out of gas here in the 8th. Nicely pitched game though.
Let’s see if Green – talk about schitzo – can hold it.

Interesting read by Rubin on lowering payroll and replacing Omar:

BTW, it’s very messed up that the Mets got rid of Livan cause his salary increases were about to kick in. The guy was probably the best pitcher on the team, except for Santana of course. Glad I was there to see him pitch a cg.

to be fair, he hadbeenpitching BPfor the mets for a while before he got released. ANd he has a track record of fading in the 2nd half.

I for one was happy to see him go, even if it meant Misch in the rotation.

true on both counts. I’d be okay w/ it if those were the reasons. just seems suspect to drop him when his incentives were about to kick in.
