This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 09-22-09

Raining blood from a lacerated sky
Bleeding its horror
Now I shall Reign in blood
! – Slayer

Well death came on swift wings last night during the first three innings of the Mets/ Braves game. But lets face it. This was do mauling – THIS WAS A BLOOD BATH!!. I think it’s safe to say that Pat Misch is definitely not in our plans for next year – Lance Broadway also for that matter. Okay enough of my rantings and ON WITH THE INFAMY !
I personally send out Birthday wishes to possibly the most intense second baseman we have ever had – Wally ” Future Manager?” Backman (1959)
Also another year older although i couldn’t give a decaying rats ass – Vince ” Mr. explosives expert” Coleman (1961) He was definitely one of the worse free agent signings we have ever had – he dogged it on the field and his off the field antics were appalling – I still feel he was sent by Whitey Herzog to bring the ’92 team down from the inside.
Middle relief pitcher Mark Guthrie is 44 (1965)
and some scrub outfielder named Jeff Barry is 40 (1969) .
And a final thought – after watching the first three innings ( yes I tried – break out the purple heart) I saw the SNY cameras focusing a lot on both Jerry Manuel and Dan Warthen – all I can tell you is both looked like dead men walking – And to quote Droopy Dog – ” You know what - THAT MAKES ME HAPPY !”

    Happy birthday Wally!

Coleman-ugh! May a 6-year old throw a cherry bomb in his lap, the little jerk. Interestng thepry about The White Rat sending him here as a Trojan Horse–it sure worked!

Yes, that game was miserable last night. The only thing I don’t mind though – is b/c we’re so far out of it and was that far out early enough in the season it did give the opportunity to see what some of these fringe players are capable of. ST is such a limited sampling and you’re not always going up against regular ML players like we are here these past two months.

To me, we can definitely scratch Misch off the list of starters – except maybe a mop up roll – if he’s even on the team next year.
Parnell isn’t a starter either, in my opinion. I would keep him for the BP though. If he ever learns the art of pitch selection, he would be a very effective set up guy.

Agreed MF4D; not sure I even want Misch in Buffalo! Definitely want Parnell in the pen, unless he is great in the spring; gotta keep him at least one more year. Cannot watch another Lindstrom or Bell develop elsewhere.

Murph sure has been hitting the ball with serious authority. Enough that I am about ready to give him first for one year and spend all of Freddie’s remaining dough on Lackey and a LF.

They said that Murph has the most extra base hits in the league in Sept–right ahead of Pujols, Fielder, and Carlos Lee.

SO many guys (Utley and Keith always come to mind) started slowly before developing, and Murph played I think 1 game in AAA before being rushed up last year.

Did you notice that he was so psyched about his homer he was still practically running full-speed after he crossed home plate?
