Real Dirty Rumor: The Winds of Change Blowing Omar’s Way?

alg_omar

According to Adam Rubin the Mets have already made a few changes for next year.  Mets fire Ramon Pena, top guy in charge of signing Latin American talent .

Now the question is where does it stop?  Is this just a classic Mets move of get rid of everyone around you to put pressure on you?  I am expecting this is the Wilpons giving Omar one more year.  I am not sure I like this kind of move as it has been tried before.  Example fire all of Willie’s guys to let him know you are not happy with him.  What do you get, an angry scared guy in charge working with a lot of people he does not know in a lame duck situation.  If the Mets were so unhappy with Willie at the time, fire him.  If the Mets are so unhappy with the direction of Omar, firing his assistants is not going to make him a better GM.  Fire Him!  Again, we can debate all day who should stay, go and who they should be replaced by but this strategy of firing their guys for pressure reasons is ridiculous and ineffective.

Oh and by the way, Rubin since the debacle has came across as very petty.  He even goes as far as wondering why we have not seen a return from our Latin signings.  Well could it be because they were signed at age 16?

Not that I follow the lower or inner workings of any other team but the Mets so I have no idea if stuff like this is going on across the league but….the Mets just seem a mess this year, all the way around.

Maybe Omar was responsible for these firings himself.

If that is true then I take back what I said. However, if the Wilpons are behind it which I suspect they are then it’s another classic example of bad management.

Yeah, the Wilpons are behind this. Like, “Omar…you’ve got to clean up this mess”. Omar’s retort “Okay, don’t worry, i’ll fix everything”…
Makes me fell all warm and fuzzy…But that is the point here, No?

Not so sure it’s bad management anyway. I’ve read a lot from BA and other followers of the minor leagues who are completely unimpressed with the Mets Latin American signings under the Omar regime, especially given the fact they established a Dominican facility and vowed to be aggressive in the market (while adhering to the MLB slotting for draft picks this was supposed to supplement their player development).

It’s bad management if they are firing them to send a message to Omar.

Maybe. But that’s an assumption you are making.

And if the result is that more competent people are running a failing department then who cares what the reason is?

Would you prefer they kept a bunch of incompetents around?

Meanwhile, there is evidence in that article to suggests that Omar is involved in this process. The article indicated that the Mets are trying to convince Sandy Johnson not to step down. If they were clearing out Omar’s guys to send a message they would surely not be trying to keep his number one consultant.

I hope you are right. In fact if I were not a Mets fan I would swear you were right. But you and I both have to be skeptical.

FYI, apparently Rubin’s column is riddled with mistakes. Ted Berg is working on a column about it for later today…

This must be because Adam wants Ramon Pena’s job. So, like, you know what I’m saying, we need to consider that too.

The Fo had to be cleaned out anyway, so it is entirely possible that Omar is working on fixing the mess.

i really don’t see this as Jeffy stepping in and firing all of omars people to send a message. if they are, you can almost guarantee that Omar is getting shuffled into a new role, with a new sheriff in town (even if it is Ricco)

Why? Did they do that with Willie when they fired his guys?
