Allow me to introduce myself in post two
I’m Mattone. What’s up. I love the Mets. They consume my summmers. Well, that and the Hamptons. In the fall, I turn to my other love: Football. Played from age 4 all the way through college. Even coached a season of college football. Saturday for me is gameday. So every Saturday, join me on The Real Dirty Mets Blog for Coach Mattone’s Quick Hits from the week that was. Mostly about the Mets, with some baseball and whatever else I want to write about. But mostly Mets.
- Frenchy is awesome. He plays with fire, passion, intensity.

Frenchy. Awesome.
- Tim Redding is not awesome. He needs to shave.
- I hope Josh Thole becomes a great player. But I’ve seen blindfolded kids swing at Pinatas with a wiffle ball bat with more power.
- Please someone update me on where Matt Galante is, and if he can come back and coach third base.
- That 80 swing drill Jerry Manuel implemented in Spring Training? Might want to scrap that.
- Kirk Nieuwenhuis. I’m predicting /hoping he becomes a Brad Hawpe type player at the dish.

Kirk. Could be awesome.
- Good luck, Russ at Stitches in Whitestone, when Kirk gets the call to the bigs.
- Speaking of Whitestone, Cherry Valley Deli, TCS.
- Maryse Ouellet, will you marry me?

My future ex-wife.
- Aroldis Chapman? Save the money, Omar, and go get Lackey.
- Bobby Parnell? Set-up man.
- Fausto Carmona? Not a major league pitcher. The Indians are pretty bad. They need the guy from the Allstate commercials playing right field and smacking homers. And talking to Jobu.
- I never met the man, sure he is a great guy, but I’m confident Charlie Manuel has bad breath.
- I’m sorry, but I have to say it again. Maryse Ouellet.

Had to do it again.
- Only name more fun to say than her’s is Benny Agbayani.

Ah, the good old days.
- My computer is fast, finally! (Look at camera 3) Finallyfast.com!
- I hate that commercial.
- Back to Francoeur. Let’s get him on some commercials. He’d be better than Schneider in that Manhattan Toyota commercial.
- You know what Citi Field really needs? A Buffalo Wild Wings across the street. They really got to get rid of those chop shops.
- Can we throw out Sean Green too when we throw out the chop shops? He might as well wear number 48 and change his name to Heilman.
- Shameless plug Shameless plug Shameless plug What are all of you guys doing this week? Coming back here to read some great writing about everything Mets.
- I’ll send $5 to anyone who goes to the Astros series and holds up a sign reading “Lance likes Fish Sticks”. Just beacuse.

Do you like fish sticks in your mouth?

Get Chapman, a lefty throwing 100..i’ll take m chances…I’ll even bank on him being 35 or 36, but I still would sign him, because I just don’t think Lackey is going to sign here.

I meant to say 25 or 26 years old.

Chapman is a few years away, he probably would start in AA and work on his secondary pitches and his control. The Mets have pieces in place to win in 2010 if they get another starter or two to work with Johan. I think the Mets need to focus on bringing in proven players who can team up with our core to challenge for the NL East next season.

LOL – great ramblings.
Couldn’t agree more about Sean Green. At best, he only gets it done 50% of the time. After last season, I’ve watched all I care to when it comes to a crappy BP. Green needs to go.
I’m very surprised at Francoeur’s performance since coming over to the Mets. I was not thrilled with the trade but I’ll admit to being wrong. I just hope whatever he found here, carries over into 2010.
Parnell is not a starter. Give him the set up job next year and work with him on that. Hopefully, knowing what his role will be, combined with ST, will be enough time for him to rise to that occasion.
I’m on the Lackey bandwagon.
Here’s to 2010.

The thing is, I don’t put any stock in Failcoeur’s season since coming here. This change of scenery thing might have a huge effect, so it won’t mean anything to me until he shows he can sustain it next season. Let him cool off over the off-season and he’ll probably show he’s useless once the 2010 season starts. That “plate discipline” of his is horrific to watch. Don’t go gushing over him until he shows consistency over the course of the season after the trade.

MC has some geniuses writing for him:
“Beltran claims he is not in any pain, but Jerry Manuel thinks that he is subconsciously compensating for his knee to protect himself, which could be a cause for his drop in power, as he feels his swing is “not as fluid†as he would like it to be.
…what was the cause of the drop prior to the injury, Jerry…”
Beltran was slugging .538 and .563 in April and May, respectively, with 6 home runs and 31 rbi’s in 46 games.
Can someone explain to me how hard is it to do a little research? Took me 30 seconds. Google and Baseball Reference. Use it.

Great hits Mike, Like the Charlie Manuel statement. I would love to open a bar across the street from Citi. There is a fortune to be made there.

Yet another ugly loss tonight in a long season of ugly losses.
I don’t know what Wright was thinking there on the base paths. He truly is toast. Off season can’t come quick enough for him. Here’s hoping he comes back fresh, ready to go, with the problem with his swing figured out.
4 Ks last night, not scoring that run before the out was called, etc. etc.
I can only hope this is not some residual effects here in the past couple of weeks b/c of that beaning.
Bobby O. really giving it to the Mets on the post game show. I mean really calling them out.

What’s going on now is extremely worrisome. If these guys can’t play like professionals, we have no hope next year. Bobby O is justified in calling them out in every game because they play like garbage in every game. 2010 looks like it’s gonna be pretty dismal regardless of injuries.

Oh, and the Phills just blew another game in the bottom of the 9th.
Yup, closer by committee is not going to work. Just ask any Met fan.
Sampling of comments from the Phills fans:
‘Step right up. Who gets to blow it in the 9th for the Philles?’
‘This team is showing signs of collapse like the 2007 and 2008 Mets. I am very nervous.’
‘The Phillies look like the 2007 Mets. ‘
LOL – made my night. It’s the little things…..

Nice post, mattone. I disagree with your view on Failcoeur, but we’re on the same page with the worthless Sean Green, #48. That number does appear to be cursed at this point. Ugh.

what is your problem with frenchy? Do you have to call him names because you did not think he would play well, you liked Church or because he plays hard and shows excietment?

There’s nothing quite like a late night TCS from Cherry Valley. I can taste the gravy now.
