According to Luke Adams of mlbtr. Â The Boston Red Sox have designated Chris Carter for assignment, according to a press release. The Red Sox designated Carter for assignment to make room on their active roster for left-handed pitcher Dustin Richardson. Carter played in 13 games for the Red Sox between ’08 & ’09, Carter as we all know is purported to be the main player to be names later in the Billy Wagner trade and would’ve been with the Mets right now if the New York Yankees didn’t claim him off waivers in order to complicate the Red Sox roster maneuvers.
So this leads me to ask ” WHAT THE F%CK HAPPENS NOW?! DO WE STILL GET HIM OR WHAT?!?

I just commented on the last thread when I saw this. (Didn’t refresh Rusty so didn’t know you posted this.)
I’m confused. Obviously, I don’t understand the rules on this one, ’cause I thought he was that player to be named later and because of the Yankees shenanigans we weren’t getting him until the end of the season….

I think we get him now if no one claims him. If someone does claim Carter, the Sox will have to pull him back. Then when trading season opens up, they would complete the trade.

O.K., sounds reasonable. Thanks, Case.

Well, someone at another blog said Carter can’t be pulled back a second time from waivers. Don’t know if they know what they’re talking about though or if this is just an educated guess.
I’m not sure Carter was someone to be jumping up and down about anyway. If it is true and we miss out, maybe it’ll be a silver lining and we’ll get someone back who although might be a year or so away from ML ready, might have more upside….

it would help knowing the waiver rules, but it seems to be non coincidence that it is less than a week until the end of the season. Maybe that is the time frame that means he can’t be claimed? Might just be the way to get him to the mets the day after the season ends?
Not that it seems like a big deal if they have to get a replacement…
man, I hope this guy ends up being one of those career minor leagures that gets a late chance and ends up having a big year or 2.

The Mets have no control over this situation. He hasn’t been traded to the Mets yet even if there is speculation that he might eventually be. A player to be named later is just what it says it is — it is not Chris Carter to be named later.
If the Bosox retain him then he can be named later. If the Bosox do not retain him someone else will have to be named later.
I think the person who said that he can not be called back from waivers is correct.

The Mets have a high waiver priority. Suppose they claim him. Would they then receive another player from the Bosox as part of the trade?

I see Dan Murphy and Fernando Tatis are platooning again. I guess down the stretch of this lost season it is really important for Jerry to see if Fernando Tatis can be part of the team’s future.

No Stick, Jerry had to push it again.
Actually, Jerry has the button permanently held down….

So, what’s the best way to make sure Jerry gets fired?

I don’t think we can do anything that he isn’t trying himself.
although the best bet might be for some bloggers (you know any?) to generate posts detailing all the myriad reasons he should go, and mistakes he made (buy some extra bandwidth first). Then get it all packaged up and figure out how to get it in front of Omar and the Wilpons (Maybe Cerrone can help with that!)
or get it to the press. They are lazy and should be happy to take your legwork, and we know the Mets brass care what the press says.

He can’t be pulled back and if he is claimed by someone else then we would have to recieve a player of our liking or all hell could break loose.
