I know it already seems to be decided but is there any reason we should not be replacing the entire coaching staff this offseason?
I understand the Mets giving Omar one more shot with a healthy team. I understand that. But Jerry’s transgressions go much further.
Also, Dan Warthen is terrible. Our pitching staff has let us down even more than our offense the entire year except for May.
Not to ruffle MC’s feathers here but Hojo also has to go. He is the surviving memeber of 2 bad years before this year. Yes we are better in RISP, triples etc. But what is it giving us? A bunch of singles hitters that have to have 4 hits to score 1 run. Enough of that crap. All he has done is work with Wright to turn him into an all average singles hitter that strikes out too much and is afraid to hit the ball hard.

To answer your question in a word – No…..

I have to agree with MC. ugh
This year, Metsies have 93 HR.
Do you really believe that w/ a full year of Beltran, Wright, Reyes and Delgado this year or a legil LFer next year, that the team wouldn’t have at least another 50 HR’s?
Even the Dodgers w/ Monster Manny, their great lineup and Don “King of Hitting Coaches” Mattingly only have 144 HRs.
Plus, unlike Jerry and Warthen, the players actually like HOJO!

Who cares if they like Hojo. Are they getting better? Is Wright better because he likes Hojo? And no the Dogders don’t rely on the longball but they have a great pitching staff and don’t have to wait on 4 singles to score a run.
Hojo has been long over due to be gone.

The only reason to keep Jerry is that he is under contract. I don’t think the coaches even have that excuse. ANd no, I don’t think it is a valid reason to keep Jerry, but it is the Wilpons money.
The injury excuse no longer flies for Jerry. And the coaches can’t even point to a couple of individual success stories, can they?
Even if Jerry is coming back, they should clear out the entire staff, but if you are doing that, Jerry should go too.
Worst thing will be keep jerry but replace coaches, then mid-season when they have to dump jerry, you end up with a new manager wanting new coaches. Or I guess another interim guy?
so much easier to do it now. Even makes sense from a business standpoint, since the winds of non-renewal whould be hitting the FO suite by now. Throw the fans this bone, and make up Jerry’s salary on increased ticket sales alone!

That’s my point with him and Omar. GM I guess will go to Ricco anyway so that does not matter as much. But manager, go out and get a guy now and let him pick his staff. Instead they will most likely keep Jerry fire all of “his” guys and put him on the warning. In other words a fail, fail situation in which he will be gone by June after ruining another Mets team in fundementals.
Get him out now there are tons of options.

Good points. And if Jerry doesn’t already realize it, clearing out his coaches and hiring new will be a clear signal to him that he’s on a short leash. How will that affect his decisions? I’m almost afraid to ask….

I hate that way of doing things and it is so Wilpons. You can’t function that way. If you don’t have confidence in Manuel then fire him. If you do have confidence then let him do his job. Stop being in the damn middle.

The only entertainment last night for me was another Braves win and yet another Philly loss. Reading the Phillies blogs last night I thought I was stuck in a time warp from two years ago. Many of the same sentiments being spewed that I swear I’ve seen somewhere else as a Met fan over the past two years…
- First off cole is a jackas for making those comments. Choke. He is a true diva. The phillies have no ace, no bullpen and our hitting sucks right now. Lets face it even if we get in we are not winning it all.
- It is OVER!!!!! We are NOT going to win three out of these last six games. What are the chances of US being the wild card team?
- I am having trouble telling if they are gutless or heartless.
- This team is an absolute disgrace. Good teams wrap divisions up and bury bad teams like the Astros. Instead they are playing like crap in every facet of the game.
- Choking of the extreme variety.
- Honestly, for what this team is, they are pathetic. They show absolutely nothing. Too many people had this clinched already…..and if they do the minimum to get in, how will they beat the rockies/braves/cards/dodgers?
- I’d say we might very well match the Mets of two seasons past.
- This team may well not get into the postseason. They are totally lost and we cannot hit mediocre pitching like the Astros threw against us tonight. Hamels is a big fat choke. Big pitchers come up big when a win is needed. He is a half-assed excuse for a pitcher. He gives of 6 RUNS tonight against a sub .500 team.
- Sorry guys, I am considering this season lost. I will be back on here to eat crow if I am wrong, but I dont see it. They should be beyond embarrased, but the problem is, they are playing like there is no point, like “who cares. we won the WS last seasonâ€. The braves will not lose again. They are playing the fish and the Nats. Even the Mets can take 2 games against the fish, unlike the supposed first place team.
- The 2007 Mets in disguise

There is a smattering of optimists on the boards but dwindling. As I said, sound all too familiar?

Was gonna post the smae thing MF4D. I get the philly paper, and they have an article on the front page of sports about “oh no, can this be happening”, and “is this 1964 all over again”?
Nice to see them get a taste of the other side, and funny how the pressure is greater when you have everything to lose, instead of being a long shot playing with house money.
still, with a magic number of 3, I would bet my house that they will take the division. Unlikely the Braves can take their remaining 6 games, but who knows.
Man, it would be fun to see the Phils choke this away. CHristmas in October.
Oh, and for all the people that claim the 2007 Mets were the biggest fold? 1964 was still worse (6.5 game lead with 12 to go).

All they need to do is get hot this weekend then rampage through the postseason (which I don’t see happening, but you never know). That said, they look pretty pathetic right now. Very reminiscent of two years ago.
Even if they do choke, they’ve still got 2008 and we’ve still got Omar. Though, Christmas in October doesn’t begin to describe what it would be like if they did…
You think some of us were rough on the Mets after choking… wait till you see what Philly fans would do to their team…

Ha! I would pay to buy that paper and read those articles.
After the past 3 years with this team, I have to take my enjoyment where I can get it….
