Valentine to the Marlins?

Buster Olney of ESPN is reporting today that Bobby Valentine is talking with the Marlins.

The Marlins have shown themselves to be a tremendously resilient organization, and with the combination of another crop of young talent and the new stadium (and new revenue) which is on the way, this franchise is clearly on the rise again.

Many here and elsewhere have expressed a desire to have Bobby V return to Queens. Should the Marlins combine what they already have going in the next few years with an experienced manager who has won a pennant in the US and a title in Japan, the Mets could be looking at another division rival possibly eclipsing them for the forseeable future.

The Phils aren’t going away, the Braves are clearly improving, and if the Mets compound the mistake of retaining Manuel with letting the Marlins sign Bobby V, the future is going to be very challenging indeed.

LOL. I hope he kills the Mets every time. Serves the Wilpons right.

Gip, could you even imagine wacthing that rising damn team with Bobby V’s enthusiasm, experience, and ability to maximize talent at the helm?

      YIKES!

They will have their third title before we will!

        It’s downright frightening.

Oh well…maybe by next year the Wilpons will have improved the team by….buiding a shrine to Pee Wee Reese at Citi.

Went to Citi for the first time yesterday and it is great….however, the place would be improved 100% if there were a nice fitting monument somewhere to the great hero Jackie Robinson (a huge statue outside?), and if the Rotunda was filled with pictures, statues, and tributes to the 69 and 86 teams, and people like Gil Hodges, Seaver, Piazza, Mookie, and great/favorite Mets of all eras.

I’m sure your being sarcastic when you say that.
I don’t what the Wilpons did so wrong to Bobby V to merit wishing your rival to beat you at every turn.
At least not from a person that calls themselves a Mets Fan.

This could work well for the Mets… Fredi Gonzalez has two years left. Mets could get him for nothing.

    Oh well, darn. LOL.

I’m not a fan of bringing Bobby V. back. And while I think the Marlins have a nice young team, I still don’t think they have all the pieces to sustain. At least not next year, even if they get Bobby V.

I’m way more worried about the Braves for next year. Add some offense with that pitching staff, they could be very tough come next year.

The Phils? Watching them play this month, I now think they’ve got more holes than we do. They’ve got:
    - a mediocre pitching staff (their ‘ace’ went 10-11)
    - a closer with two more years on an expensive contract that was awful this year
    - an aging RF
    - a SS with mediocre offense (and I won’t voice my opinion as to why I think that is…)
    - a second baseman with I’m betting is another injury problem (since his offense last two months is down)
    - worse offense at catching than we had
    - a horrible offensive Sept. in general
    - and a non existent BP. That’s the one area they had a lot of injuries but even if healthy, not sure how good they would have been….

And well, the Nats are the Nats.
