Good morning my friends. First off I owe all of you an apology . It seems that while rushing through writing my column yesterday, I omitted a very important moment in Mets History. Yesterday marked the 40th anniversary of the Mets winning the ’69 World Series ( thanks for pointing that out to my dyhrd).
After seeing Pedro pitch yesterday I once again started to second guess my opinion and started to believe we should of resigned him. But then I reminded myself that he probably would have been the first casualty that would have been sucked into the vortex that was the disabled list of 2009. Thankfully Chase Fucknutley botched that ground ball to him to prolong the inning and also thank you Phillies bullpen for pulling a Sean Green!
And alas John Lackey looked rather mediocre in the first inning of last nights game. But that might be a good thing ( follow me here) – If he pitches so/so his price will be driven down and we won’t have to
A. overpay for him
B. feel compelled to sign Jason Marquis
C. Resign Kris Benson ( although it would be nice to see Anna in nothing more than those ARRIPELLE construction jackets they used for that stupid contest).
Anyway – ON WITH THE INFAMY !!
Happy Birthday to a pitcher from the ’70 team that no one remembers ( except for Kingman) – Rich Folkers (1946)
Reserve outfielder for the 00′ – 01 team – Mark Johnson ia 42 (1967) .
New York Mets released pitcher – Bob Friend on October 17, 1966.
New York Mets released outfielder -Roy McMillan on October 17, 1966. Roy would later on return as a minor league manager then coach and finally manager of the Mets after he retired.
New York Mets purchased Larry Stahl from the Kansas City Athletics on October 17, 1966.
Finally GO DODGERS !! And GO ANGELS !!!
