This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty 10-18-09

IT JUST ISN’T FAIR !!! That’s what I said this morning when I watched the news this Morning and I saw that the Skanks won in extra innings last night due to a Anderson Hernandezesque error by the Angels second baseman Izturis. I mean can’t we just catch one break !!!!!! Well lets just hope the Dodgers beat  the Philths tonite ,I predict Manny Ramirez goes 4-4 with four grand slams ( I can dream).
Anyway HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!
Happy Birthday wishes go out to former starter/ reliever / shoe shine man from the ’79 team – Andy Hassler (1951) .
The ” gritty” back up infielder who became the starting infielder through much of this past season -Alex” sore thumbs” Cora- is 34 (1975) He did an admirable job but his overuse while Jose Reyes was on the Disabled List exposed his weaknesses.

And in a move that would be rare today ( 7 man trade) – New York Mets traded folk hero Art Shamsky, Kingmans’ favorite Met - Rich Folkers, pitcher Jim Bibby ( who would later find success with the Pittsburgh Pirates)  and Charlie Hudson to the St. Louis Cardinals for Jim Beauchamp, Harry Parker, Chuck Taylor and Tom Coulter on October 18, 1971.

And as a new feature it’s Rusty’s separated at birth!  Today we have current Mets pitcher Mike Pelfrey and pitcher from the god awful ’79 team -Andy Hassler

Oh and by the way there is only  169 more days until Opening Day At Citi Field against the Florida Marlins !!! Oh Yeah – GO DODGERS !!!

Rusty, the fact that you worked Rich Folkers in two days in a row is an accomplishment of truly mammoth proportions.

I love how the playoffs are allowing the whole country to see just what a joke this new Yankee Stadium is. Some of these homers would have a hard time leaving CBP! What a joke.

I watched that whole game last night. When was the last time you saw a baseball game continue play during a torrential downpour like that had last night in those late innings? I was waiting for the game to be decided on a rain attributed error – and thought they’re lucky if someone doesn’t get hurt…
