So will Pedro get his wish of WS rings in both leagues?

Any ideas on what the matchups will look like?

Keith Law on Mets prospects in the AFL:

    Frank (Buffalo)

Does Ruben Tejada eventually play as a starter in the majors? It seems like the Mets have pushed him very far, very fast.

    Klaw (1:09 PM)

I could see the defense + contact ability making him a solid starter at ss. He’s not a star.

    Joe (New York)

From what you saw of Mejia in AFL does he project as a starter or reliever? What is the timeline for him to make it to New York?

    Klaw (1:11 PM)

Starter. Probably two full years away.

    Mark S. (Phoenix, AZ)

Is Ike Davis a MLB starter? All-Star?

    Klaw (1:16 PM)

Starter. I’m not calling him more than that till I see him hit a breaking ball.

LOL, so Ike Davis is ML ready and a starter, but can’t hit a breaking ball. ROTFL

      1. wannybackstra

He didn’t say Davis is ready. The context of his answers are usually projections.

Anyway, there is no shortage of major leagurs who can’t hit breaking balls.

Brad Holt: Reliever or starter, and why?

    Klaw (1:59 PM)

    Reliever. One pitch guy.

    1. CaseStreet

must be one hell of a pitch

Chris Carter (.353), Josh Thole (.405) and Jose Sanchez (scoreless through 12.2 IP) have gotten off to good starts in the Venezuelan League.

How’s this for a “creative” way to fix the mets? Courtesy of a poster in the comments over at MLBTR:

“I know it’s crazy but it’s the first thing that popped into my head:

    Martin, Loney and Billingsley

    for

    Johan Santana

It makes sense in some wierd and never going to happen sense.”

Interestingly, the opinion of people responded wasn’t to call him names (the usual response to any trade proposal). That, and it was such a no brainer for the Mets, that even Omar wouldn’t have to think twice (or should be shot if he did).

I do this in a heartbeat, and then go hard for lackey and holliday (or whoever floats yer boat).

Of course it would never happen. You don’t trade stars to get better. LOL.

But back to reality, I think we should look into trying to some how get Martin with his value low.

      1. stickguy

martin would be a nice pick up. Hell, sucker the Cubs out of Soto too.

But, why not trade a star? You mean it doesn’t happen, sholdn’t happen, or can’t happen?

It does make logical sense to consider if you have a top heavy team with too many holes. SImilar to the rotation arguement. is a 2, 3-3s and a 4 worth more than a 1 and 3-4s and a 5?

LOL, have you not been paying attention all week at the flack I have been getting about trading Beltran and or Reyes after this year?

          1. stickguy

that’s different. The gist there was, the team failed again, and needed to be broken up because it was incapable of winning (my interpretation of the discussion). And Beltran and Reyes will also be 1 year left before FA guys anyway.

I was speculating more on trading a guy while he is valuable to, like you said, make the team better (sum of the parts).

            different to me at least!

I would also trade Reyes for a similar haul.

          2. trs86

Well why would you trade Johan if you thought the team as constructed was capable of winning? If we don’t win in 2010 with a healthy core, it could very well be that as constructed we are incapable of winning and the only way to change that may be to trade Reyes or Beltran. Obviously the Johan part is pointless. No one out there to trade with that would take Johan for his salary and give back good value in return. That is my fear with going 5/90 with Lackey. I love Johan but I hate contracts that are unmovable.
