Vote: None Of The Above!

ws2009-ballot

I keep seeing Mets fans post how they are rooting for the Phillies to beat the Yankees or others say they’d much rather root for the Yankees to beat the Phillies. I just have to ask as a Mets fan how can you root for either team? What we should be doing is taking a page from that classic Richard Pryor movie “Brewster’s Millions” and root for  “None Of The Above“.

It’s one thing to say that you’d rather the Yankees or the Phillies win for whatever personal reason you may have but the idea that you actually can sit there and root for either team somehow as a Mets fan just doesn’t sound right. Think about it are you going to be sitting there Game 1 rooting for Rollins to hit a HR off of Rivera in the bottom of the 9th? How bout rooting for AROD to go deep against Hamels with the bases loaded?

Me personally I’d rather the Yankees win then have the Phillies every time we play them throw their back2back rings in our faces but I am not going to sit their and actually root Cano on to get a hit off of Lee to tie a game up. Before you think I may be just a sore loser let me just say I give both teams the respect they deserve they are truly the best teams in baseball and deserve all that comes with that but that does not mean I now will sit there and root for them.

How about you how do you feel about it will you be rooting for the Yankees? Will you root for the Phillies or do you agree and will root for “None Of The Above”? Below is a Poll let us know who you plan to root for.

Is NOTA the same as hoping they will both lose? I just haven’t figured out how it can happen!

Like I said earlier, I hope for 4 ugly games, with guys blowing up right and left.

But since one team has to win, I prefer it be the yankees (for my own selfish reasons!) Then, CC jumps on the pig pile, and destroys Teix and A rod so they miss next season!

  2. CaseStreet

Yup, I voved for the Phillies. Beat the Evil Empire and their self-entitlement.

  3. Kingman 26

I hope the Phils win 4 straight 10-0 games.

  4. GravediggerHebner

I’m not rooting for either team.
I’m not rooting for a plane crash.
I’m not rooting for a natural disaster.
I’m not rooting for anything at all.
I won’t be watching. I’ll learn about it like I do any other sporting event I don’t care about, when I see it pass by on a scroll.
    See you in spring training.

Where’s the “I couldn’t care less” option. I’ve made my peace with a rival winning the WS. Let’s stop worrying about other teams and focus on our own. This is all just sour grapes. If the Mets stop being an embarrassment, maybe we can keep the Phillies from getting this far for once. Congratulations to whichever team wins, and since I love baseball above all things I’m hoping for an epic 7 game series for the ages.

    1. Mr North Jersey

LoL well if you “couldn’t care less” then you would not even vote hence no need to add that category.

I think “worrying” is a stretch when it comes to this discussion. Rather it is more of an examination into a fans view. Nothing more than that.

The Mets being an embarrassment now that is another discussion in and of itself.

Congrats to the victor but since I get no pleasure from either winner I’d sooner be done with it and hope for a sweep myself.

    2. metsfan4decades

      I don’t think anyone is ‘worrying’….
And I don’t think sour grapes is a fair description at all.

It’s baseball. It’s the Fall Classic of baseball. As a baseball fan I ALWAYS watch the WS. There have been many WS I’ve watched where I’ve not had a big interest in either team winning or losing. In that case, I normally like to see the NL win it.

But this year is not a year where I have no interest. I don’t want to see either team win. Since that’s not feasible, I’m picking what I conceive to be the lesser of the two evils: the Yankees.

Yankees in 4 so it can just be over with quick and the real Hot Stove can begin.

  6. whataputz

This WS gaurentees 1 thing, the Mets lose…so it’s essentially like watching a 7 game version of a Mets season.

  7. tkfj

All of you Mets fans rooting for the Phillies, try to look yourself in the mirror. WOW. I can’t even comprehend rooting for such a franchise. I hope the Yanks make it quick and painful.

GO NY BEAT THE SECOND RATE CITY!

    1. gipperpdx

But the Skanks are..the Skanks…and they play AL “baseball.” It isn’t real baseball when the pitcher doesn’t hit.

Bah – I’m not watching…more worried about the Giants.

    2. CaseStreet

down with the Evil Empire and their destruction of baseball.

On the 7th day, God made the Yankees and we shall all bow down in the presence of the greatest franchise in history.

      1. whataputz

case, I couldn’t agree more. Although you might want them to win, or we can kiss any shot at Lackey, Holliday, and Bay goodbye.

      2. Kingman 26

        A-MEN to that!

Granted, we are still a very small sample here, but I find it shocking that Met fan lifers would root for the Yanks. And quite a few on here.

I am no Phillies fan, but I most definitely hope they beat the Evil Empire and keep baseball safe for the teams from the boroughs of NY like Queens, which can only afford $145 mil for a team.

    3. metsfan4decades

There he is. Was wondering who you would rather see lose…

  8. gipperpdx

    I’m rooting for a very isolated,localized tornado.

  9. trs86

    Heeeee, heeee, heeee.
From MCblog comment section. Why do I read this? LOL.
    Lackey
    Holliday
    Halladay
    Bradford

Pagan stays as 4th outfielder, super-sub.
Trade a good portion of the farm for Red’s Brandon Phillips

    Reyes – ss
    Phillips – 2b
    Beltran – cf
    Holliday – lf
    Wright – 3b
    Murphy – 1b
    Francouer – rf
    Santos/Thole -c
Pitcher (Santana, Halladay, Lackey, Niese, Pelfrey)

    1. wannybackstra

Apparently the Wilpons are minting money, are unconcerned with the luxury tax and have a deep enough farm system to trade for two all-stars with a considerable amount of time remaining in their careers.

He also seems to have found a taker for Ollie or place to hide a guy with $24m remaining on his contract.

      1. trs86

And Castillo if you notice. LOL, I think he actually just tripped 200M in payroll.

  10. trs86

Hmmm, how about Bay for LF 3/45 with an option and trade for Halladay? That ties up only 30M and a combined 4 years.
Should leave a little money for bullpen.

    1. Kingman 26

      OK!

Seriously, I like it TRS. Bay’s numbers will go down in Citi, but he will still be good, and we could afford a lot more this way.

      1. trs86

I would not say a lot as that would be about it. But I like how it does not tie us down longterm. Holliday and Lackey would be possibly a combined 15 years, 180M. Much different than 4 for 60M.

  11. fongy2

Heres hoping the phils beat the yanks
    in 7 extra inning,all night games,in
foul weather causing a number of important players to suffer injuries
which are serious enough to cost both
teams any real chance at contending
    next season!

    1. trs86

Nah can we make it 4 games each 18 innings? I don’t want to hear about it for 10 days.

      1. fongy2

        Okay, as long as CC,
        Mariano,Lee and Hamels
        blow out their arms.
        Jeez, thats bad karma,
        But really whats the
        worst that could happen
WE end up with 20 guys
on the DL next year $?

  12. GravediggerHebner

This is what I’m rooting for:

“One Ring to rule them all,
    One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them.”

-J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

    1. trs86

It would be funny if for some reason they had to all share 1 ring.

    2. metsgirl31

Wow, working in a Tolkien reference…I say “Bravo”

  13. jaydh

    go yanks!

  14. metsfan4decades

And since I was bored tonight, I did a drive by through some of the usual blogs. Had to get off MLBTR b/c – wow – some of those Red Sox fans are just idiots – and that’s not a term I use freely especially when I don’t even know these people. But I’m damn sick and tired of hearing ignorant baseball fans spit back stupid comments like ‘Mets won’t sign Lackey or Holliday b/c they don’t speak Spanish’.
Yeah, Wright and Francoeur and Wagner and Maine and Pelfrey and Schneider and Putz, etc. etc. hide that Spanish accent real well, don’t they????

Anyway….I just have to ask – after reading a few Phillies blogs – why are they still so concerned about the NY Mets? We weren’t even a blip on their radar this year.

    1. jaydh

Because the previous 2 yrs they barely beat us, and this season if we were healthy we would have been right with them despite perez, pelfrey having bad years. They should be concerned about us as long as we have a strong core.

      1. Kingman 26

And damn it, if the Mets had existed in 1950 we would have beat them out for pennant that year too!!

        1. stickguy

The old timers down here are really itching to revenge that WS too.

    2. trs86

4D they are so concerned about us for one reason. They need us. The fans and players know it. At times I feel taken advantage of, to be relevant outside their city and in the media they needed a rival. So what did they and the media do? Create one. Part of me says well the hell with that, I never hated the Phillies before their ignorant players and fans made us their obsession but then the other part of me says you wanted a dogfight you got one.

    3. prismo

To be fair, most of the Mets fans on MLBTR are idiots too. It’s a great website, but most of the commenters don’t know jack.

  15. steveo

In the end the real truth is that if the philies win and ony if they win, then the managment will have to really consinder how we continue , do we throw allot of money at the problem and hope to contend with the phillies or do we make smart moves that will payoff later than sooner and for longer.I hope for the later and not sign somebody elses has beens.

  16. wannybackstra

    Heyman:

    • The Mets don’t seem inclined to pursue top free-agent pitcher John Lackey, who will surely shoot for a $100 million-plus contract in light of A.J. Burnett’s $82.5 million deal. They do want to add a solid starting pitcher (they may try a do-over on Randy Wolf), but their big-ticket target is most likely going to be a left fielder. Matt Holliday is believed to top their list, though Jason Bay will certainly suffice. Bobby Abreu is another top free-agent outfielder, while Carl Crawford could be available in trade. The Mets have no interest in taking on Milton Bradley’s problems.

I voted “None of the above”. I may use that next Tuesday when it really counts. Hatred for the Phillies will come and go (just like it did with the Braves). Hatred for the Yankees is forever. IF there has to be a winner declared, and I’m not actually in favor of a team being declared a “winner”, it should be NOT be the Yankees.
